Would you still be happy to be World Champion

Imagine: You just played in the World Championships and you snapped it off, but the promoter never pays you. Would you still be walking on cloud nine that you won, and all those hours of practice and hard work paid off. Or do you wish you never played because you are sick you're out 100k?

Well appropriate or not aside for a second there has been tourneys where the players havent been paid so lets use that as an example. In truth I would be quite upset about the money. Dont get me wrong I would feel a massive feeling of accomplishment and self worth that all my hard work paid off however as stated i would be more then a little pissed about the money. I mean would football players be superbowl champions nowadays if the 550 billion dollar shoe deals werent going through?

I guess its a matter of perspective for a young gun trying to make a name for himself in the pool and billiard world perhaps the accomplishment is the reward for the seasoned vets, the road players, the gamblers, the backers, and of course the pros the money is what counts. Dont get me wrong as said the accomplishment is incredible. Just you know how they say money cant buy you happiness? Well Ill tell you what give me the money and ill try really really really hard to fake it.

I don't think it's inappropriate at all. There's NOOOOO reason they shouldn't get paid after getting knocked out or winning. NO reason, in my opinion. Even if they DO get paid next week.... the promoters still dogged it. If they get paid, the promoter probably got lucky and raised the cash on the come.

As grandpa would say "I would rather play Joe Blow for $ 2 then play the world champ for free".

It's about the money, I have a very small ego that does not need fed.

I'd be ecstatic to be world champion. That's a title that can never be taken away and can't be bought. You know that you beat all comers and earned it.

I'd be crushed if I didn't get paid. I'd really lose sleep over it and it would cause me to think about trust in the pool world. It would probably affect my game. I'd probably sue the promoter or whomever I could to try and force payment.

The thing is that when I walk in a room though they say "look, it's the World Champion." They don't say the "unpaid World Champion". It's not the money that makes a person the World Champion it is the accomplishment.

I guarantee you that there are several posters on this board who make more than the prize money each month or even by the "deal" and they cannot ever in their entire life get a World Championship title or trophy because they don't have the skill to earn it. At best they can befriend and rub shoulders with true World Champions.

Promoters come and go. Some good some bad. Beating a full field of the world's best though is a lifetime accomplishment.

It's not all about the money. Nor is about ego. We all know how hard this game really is. We all know what pressure is. We all know what dogging it under pressure means.

It's about accomplishment. That's what tournaments are there for, to see who can bring it against the best competitors.

Of course the money is an issue but I am probably pretty safe to say that this is not THE driving force that gets the pros to the table. I think even they know that there are better paying careers out there.

Hell yeah id be pysched to win it, and about the money....theres more important things than money like love of the game and being the classiest player possible.

I would be pissed that I didn't get my money but that wouldn't take away from the fact that I was the world champion. How could I not be thrilled to the tits about that? If anyone is in pool for the money I have a piece of advice for them, get out now.

The feeling of being world champion would be great, but I don't think the feeling of a baseball bat smashing someones kneecaps for whom ever did'nt pay me would feel too great.:yikes: :D

I would take the view that the event was a sham, a scam, a fraud, and that my participating in it was a complete waste of my time and resources, and that the great sacrifices I'd made to compete were unjustified.

Anybody seen the movie "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?" I'd feel as much despair as Jane Fonda did when she learned the dance marathon was a sham.

Having said alll this, I do believe the winner will be paid, so this scenario is not happening. Still, it's interesting to think about.

I surely hope it never happens again. I know a few who are just now getting over the IPT fiasco

There are many lessons to be learned in this life and many can be quite painful.
