WOW! My Open Experience

I'm sure he is.. Especially when telling anyone who hasn't achieved superpro status they don't know *&^% about pool, and then immediately challenging them to a $10,000 matchup.

Just who I want my daughter to bring home for supper.

Russ

P.S. All that aside, he is a heck of a straight pool player. I have the big run video.

To tell you the truth, you should be so lucky as to have your daughter bring somebody like John home Russ. I am not going to insult you or say anything about your daughter, but you have John all wrong. That is a fact my friend. If he offended you in any way, you should try a little forgiveness. Perhaps there was a misunderstanding. You are not making a very good case for yourself here on Az. I believe you can do a better job!

My friend Purdman never lies, he's one of the most respectable people on this forum. Russ, if I were you, I'd believe my friend Don here and chill out on your dislike towards John Schmidt. Give it a rest, will ya? What's the point of draggin it on?

Purdman,
John Schmidt should be paying YOU to be his Public Relations Manager. In the past I haven't entered any banter with you because some of your hard-headness and opinionated self. :-) Your dropping that facade and revealing your true character has forever changed my opinion of you.

John Schmidt is in a class by himself. Other professional pool players should attempt to emulate his style and not just on the table. John has always been easy to approach and easy to talk with, always answering questions to their fullest and spending quality time with his supporters and competitors alike. You sense that he enjoys interacting with members of the pool fraternity from fire-breathing dragons to bangers like myself.

It is distasteful to see some people who can't wait to take an inch of flesh from a professional pool player at every opportunity. I hope this type of behavior begins to change on forums like this and I hope John's behavior becomes contagious to the rest of the professional pool players.

Thanks for your sound advice as well.

KEEP ON DOING WHAT YOU'RE DOING, PURDMAN. I believe you've got it.

Warm Regards,
JoeyA

Don, you should be an insperation to many people on this boared and in life!

What you have done once again is why you will always be a blessed man.

I am gonna take 2 tokes for ya Brotha!!

Joe

Good post Purdy! It sounds like you made a wise investment, and it also sounds like your having a heck of a time at the US Open. Enjoy the rest of the tournament and best of luck to you and John!

Purdman

It was great to meet you in Norfolk yesterday. (I'm Josh's friend) John is a stand up guy, plays a terrific game and it was great watching the tournament knowing this story. This cinderella story couldn't happen to any two nicer people! Well done sir!

Brian in VA

Congratulations!!!

Great job on backing John Schmidt! Have heard many good things about him in recent years. Well done on picking him to back this year!!!

Thanks Purdy and John...in ways you may not even realize

Purdy,

I have the fortunate experience to be involved in the sport here and there and have met some of the greatest people I have every known through pool, including my partner in life. John and I got a chance at this past spring's BCA tournament to chat while we were covering the event. Being both golfers also we bonded. He invited me to join him on the course the next time we both are at an event...I am hoping for decent weather in Derby, if not than next spring in Vegas. John is one of those people, as I am sure you have come to see also this past week who is genuine, funny, open, and nice.

You and I have never met nor exchanged PM's but after reading your selflessness in assisting John when he asked will always come back in karma reward points to you. I thought it took heartfelt courage and confidence for John to come on the forums trusting in the AZBilliards community to come to his aid when it was needed. That is what community is all about, he understood that and you did also.

These past 4 weeks have seen again some stressful times of uncertainty in professional pool in the US. It is hard to know what is real and what is speculative, who is sincere and who is malignant. This past week watching the US Open, it reminded me about the best part of the competitive side of the game, the ability for someone to rise above their issues and problems and win – the heart of the game.

This year's US Open and John's win I hope reminds us all, who we are in our hearts as people, as a community, as a sport and that no matter what results within surrounding controversies that seem to have an industry somewhat dumbfounded, angry, confused, shell-shocked, and leary, this is the sport of Louise XIV, of Wade Crane, Willie Mosconi, and Jean Balukas, the "Texas Tornado", and a quiet yet very funny Irish lass who does a mean table jig. It is the sport of sweet southern gentlemen such as Johnny Archer and of rock musicians like Rico Diks and a very happy man named John, who quietly one evening in the privacy of his own home with only his girfriend to keep him company, coincidentally during a typical training taping session, ran 400 balls.

Thanks to you for supporting John, thanks to John for reminding me and hopefully all of us what pool in the US is really about again and thanks to Barry and his team at the down in VA for 30 years.

Holly

Heartfelt thanks Holly. It was my pleasure. John is on his way to pool glory. It couldn't happen to a nicer guy.
Don

Purdman, give me your email addy (You can PM it to me) and I'll send you the file. ;)

I spent quite a bit of time with Gabes dad at the open. He gave me one heck of a nice deal on a Shurtz cue. We laughed so much you wouldn't believe it. I had Dave Jacoby rolling on the floor crying too. They were right next to each other.:D
Purdman:cool:
I think he a little better looking than I am, however, I think I got him beat in another area!

Hey Purdman...

I am not sure if you remember me...I was standing next to you when John was playing Earl Strickland...you kept hitting me on the shoulder going...Go John..Go John...holy..I aint never done anthing like this in my life..Johns a great kid and i staked horsed him here..GO John..he aint got but three ball left , he aint gona dog these...YESsss... I also was down at the end where the bar box Diamond Table was with that aiming tool was set up where you were trying to sell a Cue to that Big guy who had a display down there. It was a beautiful cue ..i almost asked how much you wanted for it. Me..I aint hard to miss LARGE (340) black male with a friendly smile. It was nice to see some Richmond Va guys there. I saw the Dentist and the little kid who played in the Va open who shoots at Sidepocket...I went down and met up with Rick Dummas (a great shooter himself) and enjoyed my frist US OPEN.. Wish i could have talked to you more Purdman and introduced myself as a Azbilliard member as well.

My friend, guys like you made my experience wonderful. :D Sorry if I was usuing you for a punching bag. It was just so unbelievable. I remember you buddy. You ever want a cue I got, let me know and you can have it for what I got in it. Just not my Titlist conversion. There was nothing in my bag I paid more than $1,500 for and that was the Titlist.:D I been wheeling and dealing cues for a while now and have to many. Oh,,by the way, I lived in Richmond in 1964 for a couple of months. The place was called "The Study Home For White Boys". After my wonderful two month stay there, I got to go to The Beaumont School For Boys. I will save that story for another time. I am still a Virginia boy. Leesburg!
Thanks for being there for me, Purdman:D

purdman i drive a truck (tractor trailer) for harris teeter grocery stores. I recently brought a trailer full of gatorade, water, ice cream etc... to leesburg va. for a 10k road race that is a big deal up there in northern va. we are the title sponsor for the race and i stayed there for a couple of days until the race was over to bring the trailer back to greensboro n.c.where i live. I fell in love with leesburg and have told several people about it since.(alot of 18 to 25 year old women around town, must be a college campus nearby) I stayed at the best western on route 7 and played pool at a room right across the street. great town!

Man, I wish I could have met ya. You played at Shooters. Crapy tables man!!! I use to retip their house cues. There is a new Champions just down the street but not really many players in there. More like a sports bar. Down the road about ten miles in Sterling there is a players room called First Break. Next time you are in town we can go there.
I love that Harris Teeter. There are pretty new to my area but I have been shopping there for a while. The ONLY place around that you can get a Turducken or 30 day dry aged Black Angus beef steak. You are correct, there are a lot of beautiful women in town, my wife being one of them. She may be available pretty soon. Maybe I can hook you up next time you are in town.:D She lives in a very nice house and drives a new Lexus. You could do a lot worse. Hell man, there is a Gandy Big "G" in the basement.;)
What's not to like? Hope to meet you next time.
