Thanks Purdy and John...in ways you may not even realize
Purdy,
I have the fortunate experience to be involved in the sport here and there and have met some of the greatest people I have every known through pool, including my partner in life. John and I got a chance at this past spring's BCA tournament to chat while we were covering the event. Being both golfers also we bonded. He invited me to join him on the course the next time we both are at an event...I am hoping for decent weather in Derby, if not than next spring in Vegas. John is one of those people, as I am sure you have come to see also this past week who is genuine, funny, open, and nice.
You and I have never met nor exchanged PM's but after reading your selflessness in assisting John when he asked will always come back in karma reward points to you. I thought it took heartfelt courage and confidence for John to come on the forums trusting in the AZBilliards community to come to his aid when it was needed. That is what community is all about, he understood that and you did also.
These past 4 weeks have seen again some stressful times of uncertainty in professional pool in the US. It is hard to know what is real and what is speculative, who is sincere and who is malignant. This past week watching the US Open, it reminded me about the best part of the competitive side of the game, the ability for someone to rise above their issues and problems and win – the heart of the game.
This year's US Open and John's win I hope reminds us all, who we are in our hearts as people, as a community, as a sport and that no matter what results within surrounding controversies that seem to have an industry somewhat dumbfounded, angry, confused, shell-shocked, and leary, this is the sport of Louise XIV, of Wade Crane, Willie Mosconi, and Jean Balukas, the "Texas Tornado", and a quiet yet very funny Irish lass who does a mean table jig. It is the sport of sweet southern gentlemen such as Johnny Archer and of rock musicians like Rico Diks and a very happy man named John, who quietly one evening in the privacy of his own home with only his girfriend to keep him company, coincidentally during a typical training taping session, ran 400 balls.
Thanks to you for supporting John, thanks to John for reminding me and hopefully all of us what pool in the US is really about again and thanks to Barry and his team at the down in VA for 30 years.
