WPA Addresses Ball Waxing During Matches

Well, I guess pool's dirty little secret of 20-plus years, as some have claimed, is now in the open.

WPA Statement on Ball Waxing During Matches:

It has come to the attention of the World Pool Association (WPA) that certain athletes have been waxing balls during matches. It has also been suggested that some players believe there is no rule prohibiting this practice.

The WPA would like to make it explicitly clear that waxing of balls is considered a form of cheating and will be dealt with under the WPA’s rules governing unsportsmanlike conduct. Athletes found guilty of such actions risk facing the maximum disciplinary penalty, including a lifetime ban from WPA-sanctioned events.

To address this issue, the WPA will implement additional checkpoints and equipment inspections during tournaments to detect and prevent this type of misconduct.

The WPA remains committed to ensuring fair play and preserving the integrity of the sport.

What about mustaches??😂
Can you believe this crap??
Last thing I wanna do is wax my balls!!🤣

The players have always known this was outside the rules, and only a few violated those rules, perhaps more than the few of which I was aware, but still not many.

I think what's new about the situation is that it has become a more common practice. Now that pool has started to bring its majors to more and more humid locations (World 9ball, Philippines Open, Hanoi Open, just to name a few), there's every reason to believe that the trend toward greater doctoring of the cue ball would continue if left unchecked.

WPA is saying the right things here, but unless they take enforcement seriously, this is all just hot air. You see this as a scandal and I do not, and I really do not care who may have doctored the cue ball at the recently completed World 9ball.

I see this situation as an opportunity for pool to make itself better and I hope it does not become a missed opportunity.

Question::

One afternoon, I washed and waxed my car, and some of the wax residue got onto my un-tucked-in shirt.

Later that night, I get Ball-in-Hand, notice some chalk, and wipe CB on my shirt.

Is that considered waxing ?!?

How did the waxing of the cue ball even become a thing? I mean who intentionally plays pool like that, I can maybe see it for trick shot stuff but regular pool???

It seems that lots of people use wax as part of their standard ball maintenance at home. It's often mentioned when best cleang methods are discussed.

A local room seems to do it to all the pool balls. The balls barely throw.

Thinking back, there was a local room in the 1960s where the cue balls acted funny in a way that could have been from wax. I didn't know about wax at the time.

there are legitimate reasons to use silicone. to prepare for a tournament in which the cloth will be brand new and fast. emulate the conditions. it's either that, cloth change or a heater
I am really surprised people use Silicone spray on a pool table or pool balls. It is very oily, it gets on everything (hands, cue, tip, cloths, etc), and it doesn’t clean off easily.

Perhaps it is one of the car “waxes” that actually contain silicone or other polymers.

Just can't help myself.
After reading this post, I had to see what all the hubbub was about. Sprayed some Silicone on a pp towel, shoved it in a Ziploc and headed for the hall.
I compared a measles CB to the red circle CB the hall provides after wiping down the measle with Silicone.
Damn thing almost drew itself!!
Small flick of the wrist gave me 4 - 5 feet. 😂 You could tell the difference between both CBs when English was applied.
Measle broke at greater angles coming off the rail, draw was too easy, massès took off like a striped-ass ape, all sorts of fun stuff. Effect started wearing off after 20 mins or so of hard spins and draws, I guess cloth and rails gobbled it up.
I can def see how this could be abused.
Hope it doesn't screw up my tip.
