Appleton was ahead 9-2 going to 13 and ran outta gas.
His Opponent came back.... tied it up 12-12.

Go to the the 1 hr 54 minute mark and Sweat that last game.

In that situation, the shot from the 8 to the 9 was one a lot of players would stumble on.

Darren's composure on the last rack makes me think of what was discussed in the thread about natural talent. Because given the stakes and what just happened, Darren's mental fortitude and ability to rise to the occasion is absolutely something that not everyone has. At least not without significant work.

Yeah, me too. Chatted with Darren about this match very shortly afterward and he was very proud of his escape here. There's no denying that 2012 was a great year for him, as he also captured the "winner take all" International Challenge of Champions.
