Good stuff here, and Kelly Fisher is just the person to lead the charge. She's honest, energetic, and charismatic and she has leadership qualities.

I would like to see the scope of this effort increased to include the establishment of a group health insurance for all pro players (with optional participation.) Every player organization in the history of pro pool has overlooked this critical subject.

I think this is a great step forward. Makes you wonder if individual player concerns will route through this commission. I've heard rumors historically of specific players having personal challenges with WPA procedures, rulings, invitations, etc. and finding the WPA non-responsive to their inquiries. Would they be expected to work with their Atheletes' Commission representatives? Or is that body not meant to handle individual athlete issues and more just meant to represent the players as a whole?

I would encourage the Rules Committee to make use of the Athletes' Commission. At a minimum would be (1) "Hey, we're opening up a revision window. Do you have any suggestions?" and (2) "Here is a draft of our upcoming proposed rule changes for your review and comment." Given the rules only get updated like every 5-10 years, it would have been nice if this was in place before the most recent rules changes were made. I agree with the recent changes. Smart, qualified people making intelligent decisions in good faith. I just wonder if having this in place first would have been an opportunity to get the most bang-for-our-buck out of this current revision if the next opportunity will be a ways away.

Would this be useful for other than US players? If it is only US players who have a problem there, it seems like it should be their national federation that takes care of it.

Because that has worked so well in the past? ;)

You could argue that the players' organizations have always failed due to failed leaders. If so, who do you recommend to lead them this time?
No idea. If my employer or promoter is telling me they have my best interest at heart.... it's safe to assume they may also have oceanfront properties for sale in Arizona.

It is interesting to see that the BCA is slowly starting to take steps to also look like a national federation of late and not just a trade organization.

Agreed, Bob, but the national federations don't take care of it, so maybe the players can take charge here. Admittedly, I was thinking chiefly of American players when I wrote my post.

This particular line concerns me.

''The commission will consist of six members-three male and three female athletes-elected by the top-ranked players based on WPA rankings'.

I think the players worldwide should vote one who's gonna represent them.
Plus you have even numbers so a vote could be a tie, then?

I don't think it should become a ''good old boys'' commission.
