Hi everyone. I arrived in Rocky Mount, NC early yesterday morning. As everyone knows, this venue is much different than the other tournaments we will be playing this year. From what I have seen so far everything is going to go great. We had a very successful Pro-Am last night with hundreds of spectators and alot of participants. The venue is nice and the people here are taking good care of all of the players.

First round I drew my good friend Tracie Hines. She and I have played many times on the regional tours and have always had close matches. It should be a good one. We start at 1:15 so I will have updates later this afternoon.

Take care,
Sarah

This match could definitely go either way. Tracie is capable of knocking down any number of the girls on tour.

Good luck Sarah.

Mike

Sarah,

I checked out the brackets, and seen that you lost to Tracy, in the first match, not sure what the number by your name means? I am assuming both of you was on the hill?

So what made this event so much different from the others?

I did lose to Tracie. The score was 9-8. Neither of us played very well the whole matched. We played well at certain times, but definitely not the whole match. The final game we both made mistakes. I had ball in hand and ran to the 5-ball and missed a pretty easy shot trying to get too perfect on the 6-ball. She ran to the 8-ball and missed a pretty easy shot. She left me a tough shot in the side pocket. I thought I hit it good but apparently I didn't! Tracie made a good shot and won the match.

Tomorrow/today I play at 11 am against Gina Kim-Lipsky. We will see how that goes.

This event is different because it is being held at a Community College rather than a casino. Everyone affiliated with the tournament has been extremely kind. The players are definitely being well taken care of.

Take care,
Sarah

You know what to do.....I know you have this tourney covered!

Oh and btw, try not to be giving people heart attacks, OK?

I played Gina Kim-Lipsky this morning at 11 am. I played really well and Gina didn't really make any mistakes. The score was 9-3. I have to play again at 2:30 against Laura Smith. It should be another good match. Laura is a great player.

Take care,
Sarah

No doubts in our minds that you'll get her too!

It was a tough loss to Laura Smith. My apologies for not making it online sooner to give an update. The match was very close until we were tied at 6. I missed a safety and gave her a chance to run the rack. I really didn't get to shoot the rest of the match. She played very well and her experience in pressure situations showed. That is a reason why she has been such a consistant player for many years. She has my utmost respect.

So I started the year out kind of bad. I will be taking a pretty big hit in the rankings. I will have to play well from here on out. Hopefully things will work out better than they did at this tournament.

Good luck to those that are still in the tournament.

Take care,
Sarah

Sarah,
I saw your matches in person and how disappointed you were after the two tough losses. Please don't take offense with this question . . . . . based on them and the your tournament finish, it didn't appear that you had your "A" game that week. Would you agree? Is it tough getting started in the first tournament of the year?

I will probably get censored on this, but what the heck. Maybe it would help players like you if your "organization" would allow you to compete in other events to improve your game under tournament fire. Say, maybe, like the Derby? :D No need to stick your neck out again on that issue.

Good luck for the rest of the year.

asrob,

I don't mind being honest about playing good or bad. I agree with you that I played bad in the North Carolina tournament. I'm not sure why, but it happened. I guess that happens to everyone. It was tough playing in a tournament after not playing in one for a couple months. I'm not a big fan of the big breaks in between tournaments. I think we should have something to fill in the off months.

You won't get censored for speaking honestly. I have spoken honestly about the DCC situation and the other tournaments that we are not allowed to play in. I agree with you that it takes away a chance for the top women in the world to play against the best men in the world. I know that the women do not play as well as the men, but we might get lucky and win a set. I would like to think that if I get a chance to play Efren in a tournament I might learn alot more than I would just watching.

Hopefully I will be more prepared for the second tournament of the year, which is next week. I will keep everyone updated from that tournament.

Sarah

To all who read this . . . . .
What Sarah was too nice to mention was that during the last 2 games of her first match with Tracie Hines, the second round introductions and matches were going on. I don't know if that happens at all tournaments and the organizers were only trying to keep everything on schedule. I DO know that if it was me playing, I would not have been able to chalk my cue, much less play a tournament game. Verrrryyyy distracting for both women.

My impression is that Sarah has a ton of heart and the game to back it up.

Excellent post, Sarah!! We all have some bad rolls, don't sweat it. :p

asrob, the announcements are not uncommon in the tournaments. They have to do their best to keep things on schedule. We had the option to wait it out. Tracie waited for a while and then decided to shoot. I can't say that I didn't have any chances to win because, unfortunately, I had way to many and couldn't capatilize. Thank you for your kind words. I try to be a fighter and this will be a time that I will have to fight my way back. Hopefully it works out!

Take care,
Sarah

I heard the announcer say you two could wait or continue and Tracie hold off for a while. And, yes, you did have chances, especially in that last game. I wanted to scream "TAKE DEEP BREATH AND RUN OUT!!!", but didn't really feel like getting kicked out. :D

You're a class lady and your attitude will be worth a couple balls in the future. Keep fighting. And, next time I will come over and talk to you - even though we're both shy. :o
