I see on the WPBA site that the first event has been canceled leaving the first event for 2008 in mid April. Now I see why a lot of the WPBA players are playing in open tournaments...they need the money. Johnnyt

Does anyone have any insider info as to why it was cancelled? Is there a chance that more events will suffer the same fate?

There are still 7 tournaments which I think, has been the normal annual number of events.

IMO, the WPBA is certainly a roll-model for the Men's Pros to follow. Well-organized, lots of TV exposures, very united amongst the players. I sincerely hope that the WPBA can get itself back on track.

The first event was rescheduled, not cancelled. The casino has some unforeseen personnel issues...and because of that, they were not ready to host the event in March. They are still very much looking forward to hosting a WPBA event...and it looks like the rescheduled dates will be in October.

The WPBA will have a full schedule of events as planned...the start date just got moved back a little...extending everyone's winter vacation!

Thanks for the interest!

I have to say this about the women. I was watching Allison at the DCC and she shot the 8 and hung it in the pocket. Well she never said a word just wend over and sat down. Of course the guy got out. Then she scratched the next time she broke and like a lady went and sat down again and didn't say a word. Now the guy she was playing got ball in hand and was on the hill. When and got out of line on a shot of course he said a bad words and made a few jesters. It came to mind then why the men don't get as much TV time anymore. I never saw any of the ladies get out of line while playing in the tournament. Gentlemen should act like gentlemen besides you never know who is watching. (JMO), Doug

The postponing of this event could be a good thing.
This removes the conflict and frees up some of the ladies to visit the Super Billiards Expo with their sponsors.

great point Rich :) not to mention the WPBA Regional Tour Championships were moved out a bit this year and will be played Feb 29-Mar 2. this definitely is an added bonus for those playing to know the pro tour stops don't start until April.

the reason the men don't get as much tv time is:

1) there's no men's tour like the women have in the wpba.
2) a lot of people would just rather watch sexy women play pool than men.

you are incorrect worriedbeef. unfortunately, many do not recognize the UPA as being THE men's professional tour, but they have sustained their presence for quite some time now and are recognized by the various pool entities as the official rankings of mens professional pool, while other tours have not. so, although it is not the same as the WPBA, they do exist and are working on trying to become more.
