WPBA - Has Kelly Fisher Joined the Battle for #1?

I believe that this X. Pan lady from China will be right up there in the thick of it by next year if she keeps coming over and winning spots to play all the tour dates. But your right, Kelly has to be considered for #1 at some point in the near future. IMHO. Johnnyt

I haven't had the opportunity to watch Kelly Fisher play except for a minimal glimpse of one of her televised matches.

While I do not challenge her ability, might some of her recent success in climbing the ramks be attributed to the fact that WPBA events are now single elimination once 16 players remain?

One could argue that her playing ability has gotten her through to this point but it can also be argued that in a single race anything can happen.

For example, Karen, Allison or Kelly could lose their 1st single elimination match and drop valuable ranking points while the others would get a majot jump in points.

Just a thought.

Kelly went through the entire event last weekend undefeated. Only 1 player took her to hill-hill. She beat Jeanette twice in addition to back to back 7-4 wins over Allison and Karen. It takes more than a little luck to do that. The more you watch her play, the more you come to understand just how good she really is.

Kelly's rapid adaptation to 9-ball is very impressive. I wouldn't be surprised if she soon leads the pack. Almost certainly she'll put an end to the clear domination of Allison and Karen.

Kim Ga Young with a bit more consistancy is also a major threat for no.1.

And in agreement with JohnnyT, I also think Pan Xiao Ting will become a regular contender at the top end of events. She still lacks the tournament experience of the other girls, and the travel is still a shock to her, causing a bit of inconsistancy in her form, but she is super diligent, putting in 6 to 8 hours a day. She is very focused on becoming no.1 and I believe she'll make a good run of achieving that goal.

It seems she'll qualify for the main tour next year, and she'll come in better rested, knowing what to expect, and with a lot of lessons under her belt.

Jennifer Baretta also seems to be making the transition from a workhorse trier to a real quality player / winner. I expect, given her drive, that she'll continue to improve. She's still pretty new to the game and will continue to refine her game and pick up new tricks to add to her arsenal.

One thing for sure is that the women's game will become tougher and more entertaining at the top. I hope the money on offer increases 2 or 3 fold in coming years so that the top 30 can be fully dedicated professionals.

I am a big fan of Xiao Ting Pan, and I wish her many success.

I agree that Ms. Pan will gain more international experience, and learn to deal with her jetlag and all the travelling and become a better player as she comes along. And I will not be surpised if she eventually wins at least an event.

Sounds like everyone is writing Gerda and Helena off.

And then there is Sarah Ellerby sneaking up on the pack. It looks like her instruction is paying off and she has bumped her play up another level.

Jake, I'm not writing anyone off. Please see my earlier post in this thread.
I think the WPBA is getting better and stronger all of the time. :D

Kelly and G Y Kim both play like "guys" - I look for G Y Kim to really take over. Kelly is awesome the only thing that freaks me out a bit is she shoots so fast. I mean it works but I think thats one reason Vivian dogs it at times and I dont want Kelly to do that. Allison is just amazing really to watch and he recovery when she messes up is great. One that I thought would be coming up faster is Julie Kelly. I really had looked for her to shock everyone this year but I dunno. I think its gonna be G Y Kim - Fisher and Fisher BUT I think Karen will rise to the top and hold it. Watching her play the past year the only think I see holding her back is the cue ball on the break - she just cant seem to park the ball. KAREN - HEY KAREN ......... Corey Deuel break!!
