WPBA Loses another event

Did anyone notice they lost one of their events off their schedule in 2008?
heard the casino backed out.dont know if there was a penalty clause so wpba would get some money, but thats pretty awful they lost an entire event
plus no BCA Open next year/ so thats 2 events gone for 2009.

begs to ask , whats next and how will the women survive this tough economy and what are they doing about it?
 
Could you be more specific, which event are you talking about? And my understanding is the BCA is just now in NC during the expo, rather than in Vegas...?

Wasnt there one at the Odewa Casino or some name like that that got postponed, then cancelled?

And the BCA came out and said no more tournament, they were losing money. Almost positive on that one.

They canceled the BCA after this years event. From the info I heard it was always a loss leader even in Vegas and they can't afford it any more.

I guess maybe they didn't actually "cancel" it. They just said they are not paying for it any more. So anyone who wants to pony up $60-80K or so could have their name on it I bet.
 
One event was postponed then canceled, but that happened months ago. Because it couldn't be rescheduled, that is why the Nationals will have 64 players instead of 48.
 
I thought all events had 64? They have 64 in this event in Oregon... according to the chart.

I did too. But we got an email from the WPBA that stated (roughly):

The WPBA Board and Regional Tour Committee have decided to increase the field size from 48 to 64 players for the National Championships due to the unusual circumstances with the Midwest Classic being canceled.
 
The event lost in 2008 appears to be the WPBA Midwest Classic, which was played in Norman, Oklahoma last year, after several years of being contested in Peoria, Illinois. Suggesting that this event has been lost permanently, rather than just for 2008, is pure speculation. We won't know for sure until the 2009 schedule is released by the WPBA.

Finally, the BCA Open, though counted towards the WPBA rankings, is not, and never has been, a WPBA event.

The WPBA played the U.S. Open 9-ball at Riverwind Casino in Norman July 31st, 2008. I believe that's the only thing on their schedule for this year ever.

Thanks for the correction, Ron. Just noting that this is the venue that the tour went to last year but not this year.

Nationals changed their format last year. Rather than starting off with brackets, they had only 48 players, and broke them into 8 groups of 6. The top 2 from each group advanced to the single elimination round. So, either they're going to have a regular bracketed tournament this year or have 8 groups of 8, which may be a lot for the players (having to play 7 matches before the final 16).
