WPBA Midwest Classic

Yes, it's alarming to see Melissa Herndon miss a WPBA event. I don't recall her missing an event since she became a WPBA touring pro in May 2002. Nonetheless, if Melissa is missing this event due to a personal reason, and somebody knows that reason, I request that it not be shared here on the forum. If it's personal, it's for Melissa to share and only if she chooses to do so.

I agree and I shouldn't have asked the question on here. Johnnyt

Allison Fisher will be there playing, she will be playing with her Cuetec cue, thats what she shoots with. i shoot with a Cuetec, but Earl doesnt anymore, so that just leaves me and Allison to shoot with the Cuetec Cue, thanks!

No Liz Lovely ?

I had no idea she was only 15. Looks like a bright future for her...as bright as it can get right now in pool. Johnnyt

best of luck to one of my road-buddies - Erica Testa :D hope you have a great tournament!

Good for her. She has a real life too, and priorities. Most pool players wouldn't miss a major tourament for a friends wedding. They would ask the friend to change the wedding date. Johnnyt

Wow, no major surprises in the matches. The top 16 seeds (#17 Kostanian seeded due to Herndon's absence) went 15-1, with the only loss being Julie Kelly's not-very-shocking loss to unseeded Jasmin Ouschan. In fact, Jasmin and Allison are on a collision course, likely to meet in the third round of the winners bracket. It's all very reminiscent of when the unseeded Karen Corr, who was already one of the elite, wreaked havoc with the draw back in 1999.

Doesn't look like the draw will produce any cinderella story, with the mighty flexing their muscles to this point. We shall see.

Gotta congratulate Cathy Metzinger on beating Ewa Laurance. Cathy paid a visit to the Amsterdam Billiard Club just a few weeks go, just after the US Open and, after she finished shooting, we chatted at length. She's a classy and congenial lady, and even though she beat a close freind of mine, I'm very happy for her.

Got to disagree just a bit, Katie Cowan is from NC and playing in her first pro event and beat Alice Rim, pretty surprisingly, 9-2. Alice has been playing really well, and I think that is a pretty big upset.

More of the same, with the top players looking awfully tough in round 2. Ashton beating Kim White and Hopkins beating Tiffany Nelson are the two exceptions, with each match going double hill. Nonetheless, the top 12 by WPBA ranking stand with a collective match record of 24-0. Action on the winner's side today should be fantastic, with the showcase match being Allison vs Jasmin. Wish I were there!

The third round has some pretty nice match ups...

Allison Vs Jasmin ... Quite possibly the best matchup in this round!

Monica Vs Helena... I would love to see Monica go all the way in this tournament. It has been a joy to watch her win 3 Ladies Spirit Tour events in a row!

GYK Vs Sarah Ellerby ... Sarah needs to start making a statement that she is a force to be dealt with in the later rounds. She has all the tools to get the job done and she has all the skill necessary to become a champion on this tour. However, GYK will be a tough test.

XTP Vs Vivian ... pictures please! I think Xiaoting will proceed to the final 16 in this tournament!

Kelly Fisher Vs Jeanette Lee ... This is a big test for both players, and Jeanette is poised to make a statement in this tournament. For those that have started to write her off, don't be surprised if she is still at the table on Sunday, she is still capable of beating anybody at any given time.

Gerda Vs Dawn Hopkins ... This matchup is very interesting. It depends on which Gerda shows up to play. Dawn has squeaked by Gerda in the past, so I would not be surprised to see Mrs. Hopkins advance, but then again - "run-out" Gerda may show up to the table and cruise to victory.

Karen Corr Vs Anna Kostanian ... This is a great opportunity for Anna to break through and show that she can get past the top guns of the WPBA. Karen is such an intimidating force at the table, but if Anna just plays her game and focuses on what needs to be done instead of who is sitting in the chair, you just might see Karen playing on Saturday morning - a rarity, but not an impossibility!

Action!

Rachael Abbink vs. Val Finnie

I like Val in this one - anyone care to bet some V-Cash on it?

I'll take Val for V250. :-)

The brackets went up right after I posted they weren't. I don't think there are highlights up yet. Johnnyt
