WPBA TV Format

It's not that I disagree, It's just that I don't think they are necessary. All players know what they're getting into before a tournament starts. By paying their entry fee, they are basically agreeing to abide by the rules. You win the hotseat match, you're only playing one more set and they all know that beforehand.

You (meaning the tournament director) are only trying to determine a winner, who is the best player on this day. A single race to 11 (13 preferably) will determine that.

And I already knew that you were not refering to my post. It's just that what I had previously said was similar to the comparison in the post you quoted.

And....FWIW.......I think winning more games in the finals IS the way to win, nothing stupid about having THAT as an expectation (see your last sentence in the above quote).

I'm done with this thread. Tempers are going to flare in this one, I have a feeling.

Maniac (not wanting an argument, just stating my beliefs)

I'm not trying to argue. I apologize if I came across that way.

You said you wanted the best player on that day to win. Well......who's really the best player of the day if the winner is 65-65 and the runner up is something like 70-30ish?

I'm just making the point that no setup is perfect in any sport/game, yet the pool community is so quick to ***** about it and accept it in every other game/sport they watch without putting any actualy objective or critical thinking into it.

Interestingly, their title game is decided just like all rest, (4) 15-minute quarters. They don't suddenly change the format nor shorten it up for the convenience of a TV audience.

Yes they did. You can't kick a field goal on your first possession to win the game in overtime any more. Who was that for?

Actually they DO change the Superbowl game. There are more commercials than in a regular season telecast and the halftime is much longer, all for television ratings sake, not the game itself.

I cannot stand to watch NBA basketball on television anymore. Each team has 3 timeouts per half and there are 2 TELEVISION timeouts per half. If you can stay awake for the 4th quarter of any NBA game on television, you surely know that it turns into a timeout-fest. Television has made watching that sport WORSE, imo.

Television, at least here in the states, has done a great disservice to pool. It too was changed for the sake of television, only in the wrong direction.

Maniac (Again, only my opinions. I respect yours.)

TERRIBLE FORMAT.

Either run events with longer races as single elimination. Or run them double elimination thru out. This way everyone has the same shot.

At the end of the event you got Ga young being crowned the winner, she has 1 loss.

You have the person you are calling the second place finisher Monica Webb who has 2 losses

Tied for 3rd/4th is Karen Corr and Allison Fisher who both have 1 loss.

Webb should never get more then them with 2 losses.

Now with 3 people with 1 loss you declare a winner. This is why changing the format near the end is very silly.

If they want this format, just have it every match from the start and single elim. tourney.

Okay, I was mistaken. I am not done with this thread .

We're all good, vapoolplayer! No worries, my friend!

The difference in the part I quoted above is that the person that went 70-30-ish LOST a match, while the winner went UNDEFEATED in the tournament. The winner, by the virtue of his stellar play and NOT losing a match, simply had no opportunity to go multiple matches into the losers bracket (which is the goal for most every player). If a winner of a double elimination tournament where it is single elimination in the finals has gone undefeated, it is not possible for him/her to have a 65-65 record. He/she won every match they played, so if they played 8 matches (race to 9), could have no worse than a 72-64 record for the tournament. This is why I favor this type of format, just make the finals a race to 11 or 13, determine a winner, and let everyone go home. If the guy/gal comes up through the losers bracket and snaps it off, so be it. We have a winner and lets all go home. He/she would tecnically have a better overall record anyway, more often than not.
