These

schedules are assuming all who qualified for it will be there. John will probably be replaced by another player. I believe Gabe also cancelled in past years because of the expense involved in going there. In fact, there may be more American players not going than just John.

IMHO, almost half of the Americans picked to go were not the best representatives of American Pool to go.

It is just a shame that there isn't a united structured American Pool organization in this country that could help defray some of the expenses
that our Pro Players have for events of this magnitude. It is so badly needed. This year is the prime example - with John Schmidt, our US Open 9 ball champion not being able to participant in the World Pool Championship. A darn shame.

In fact it weighs on me so much, I am tempted to get together with a few guys, like BlackJack, Freddy, Jay, JR, UnknownPro, etc.., and come up with a plan to start a new organization towards that end. I have been thinking about starting a new league geared towards the Semi-Pro level anyway, with better challenges than exists now. One that will consider the players, promote our sport in a structured organized way, and cooperate with International organizations.

Our American Pool needs better definition and ladder structure, with increasing Pool challenges the further you progress, and not to mention,
more youth organizations and leagues.

Close, but not far enough...

I disagree. The shame is that there isn't an organization in the US that will pay the ENTIRE cost of the event. It should be a matter of national pride that our best players compete at this tournament. The UPA (they are the ones that choose the eligible players, correct?) should be footing the bill for this. Entry fee, plane tickets, hotel room and some food money.

Cripes, if an APA team wins its league and gets a sponsored (by the league) trip to Vegas (at least that's how it worked in the league I played) can't our best players get support from the UPA?

A good friend of mine here in Korea is the #1 Korean English Billiards player. The KBF has paid for him to go to Dubai (and other such places) for major English Billiards tournaments 3 times that I know of. Hotel, entry, and plane tickets. And who plays that game? Practically nobody. But the U.S. of A. can't figure out a way to send it's top pool player(s) to the World Pool Championships?

Come on!!!

If the UPA, BCA (either of the two BCAs), or even (since I know they actually bring in the ca$$$h even if it is amateur) APA had any sense of pride at all, one of them would step forward and pay for this. All of it. Not to promote their own brand of pool and say "we sponsored so and so." Just to be able to say "We support American pool on the World level."

Same in Thailand

To my knowledge, the Thai Billiards Association sponsors Tepwin and pays all of his expenses for the WPC.

Actually

besides 9 and 12, 13, 14, and 16 are pretty stout groups too.

I noticed that Jay's player (Jonni Fulcher) he sponsored for the US Open 9 ball, got a pretty good ride in group 4 matches.

Question: Do they seed these groups? I didn't think so, but run down the first matches and it looks like they did.

The Schmidt vs Harriman All-around Action Challendge is scheduled for Nov 8 to 10. WPC is scheduled Nov 3 to 11. I see a conflict in schedule.

Edit: Latest update to Excelsheet attached.

BTW, I'm attaching an Excel Spreadsheet for those who want to analyze things up.

Thank you for the information. I guess John isn't going to Manila after all - OUCH!

Most people do not understand that the UPA was set up as a non-profit organization, and there are no monies. Recently Frank Alvarez took over the UPA, and he has re-structured it. It is too early to finance such an undertaking as the "new UPA" is still in its infancy. In the future, hopefully that will change - and it will change if the UPA gets support instead of constant criticism. You must understand, that if the UPA gets no support from the fans or sponsors, the money won't be there.

The UPA is not a money making machine - it needs support from everybody. The truth is that people would rather spend their energy pointing out the UPA's defects, when in reality the defects exist due to a lack of support and financing. Support the UPA, and you support the players and the sponsors. Then there will be more events, and more opportunities for the organization to grow. If that doesn't happen, we will be talking about this same issue next year, and the year after that, and the year after that.

The BCA should be cancelled out, forgotten about, and put in their proper place. They've dropped the ball so many times and they failed to step up to the plate so many times that I refuse to pay attention to anything that they say or do. They are like an irresponsible parent that tells their child, "Yes, I am in charge, but don't expect too much from me. I'm only capable of sustainng and supporting myself. Don't look towards me for anything because I have my own $hit to deal with." IMO, that is their attitude towards profesional pool.

If the BCA are unwilling to step up to the plate, then a new organization that will needs to be formed. Enough is enough. Start an organization that is geared towards protecting and assisting the players. This organization will be separate from the BCA/UPA, and the board will be voted in by the players. Hire professionals to lead the players in a professional manner. I think it would work if we put enough positive energy behind it.

John Schmidt has chosen to go to the Qlympics and play the Action Challenge II against Danny Harriman.
