Seen many cue balls being cleaned/play stopping.... it's a real situation that's needed.... it happened quite frequently during this event.
A recommendation.... give each referee and extra cue ball.
This helps speed up play.

I'd suggest mandatory cleanings during the game. If its dirty during the match it has to wait until the break, this way the entire set can be refreshed.

Baseball players have to deal with the wind stealing their homers. Pool players are too spoiled if they cant handle some dirty balls during a match.

The problem was, most likely, Alcaide's Kamii lipstick
I really hate that stuff. It pollutes not just the cue ball, but the table also. Little bits of it end up all over everything long after the player using it has left the table. It really shouldn't be allowed in a professional setting.

Roku? Kageki?

The kind I've had a bad experience with was the old style Kamui chalk that was very soft, like makeup. I never used it myself, but I've played against people using it, and it leaves little bits of soft, sticky chalk on the table which are picked up by the balls again after being cleaned. Someone told me that it's not a problem if used as designed - very lightly, and much less often. In practice, however, nobody ever does this. Players are used to chalking much more often and these habits are built into their muscle memory and pre-shot routines. Again, I'm not sure if this is true, but that's what I've heard.

My friend uses Roku, and I have never noticed. I will keep an eye on it. Maybe the conditions are a factor? Though it is very humid here and that doesn't make much difference that I notice.

Does the shot clock stop when the ball is being cleaned? I am curious if they are simply utilizing a few extra seconds of contemplation and steadying themselves.

I love kamui and how soft it is but when i clean the table every week you can really see what a mess it is and I don’t over chalk. I only chalk once at the beginning of every rack. V10 I have next to nothing on the white Cotton cloth I clean it with And I play every day.
