wrap groove - linen to leather

Absolutely love this cue.

If I wanted to switch from linen to elephant ear would my cue have to have the wrap groove changed?

That's about the only thing stopping me at this point.

I don't think I'll ever sell this one but if something drastic happened and I needed money, who knows...
 
Depending on the thickness of the leather, probably not. Most cue grip leather today is suitably thinned to the same thickness as linen.
 
It is real close. Most of the leather we get today is the same thickness as the linen with the exception of elephant. It is a little thicker than other leather wraps. When you get elephant down to that size it starts looking like swiss cheese as it has thick wrinkles and when it gets thin you cut through the wrinkles and leave holes. Most I have seen are around .030.

A good substitute is Spanish Bull oil tanned or the kangaroo that Martin over at www.superiorcues.com has. He might also have some thinner elephant.
 
EE leather are about .028" minimum .
That groove will need some light sanding and the shoulders a little razor blade work. No biggie .

With Bull or Kangaroo the wrap groove for sure wouldn't need any adjustment? So the linen could be put back on one day?

Yes, you can change back with no problem. The Bison is the same and the wrap groove will not need any adjustment other than cleaning off the old glue with razor blade and sand paper so the wrap area is smooth. All of Martin's wraps except for Elephant ear are between .022 and .025 with Irish Linen being about the same.
