Wrong Ball

Gotta be the dumbest quote ever. Its obvious you hate SVB. Yawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwn.
Right?!

Good grief.

Some statements are so stupid that they’re not even worth the small amount of time or effort it would take to refute them.

Yes exactly.
These guys could learn a lesson from Accu-Stats.
The endless slow motions and the "red three", "green six" "brown seven" etc....so annoying.
They sure do have a lot of dead time in their broadcasts. Some of the games had commentators, others none at all. They could easily do better IMO.

If it were purely a financial decision, he would have told his opponent he was playing the wrong ball rather than jumping out of his seat before the shot was finished or even played. The blow up on social media and even TV (this is Matchroom) would have been mental with the greatest player of modern times displaying great sportsmanship towards a 17 year old whippersnapper.

It was a win at all costs decision. SVB even said that himself afterwards. He missed an opportunity to leave a mark on the game. I have nothing against Shane in general or in this instance - he played by the rules and played to win. Most pros (but by no means all) would have done the same thing. Whether you or I or the fencepost would or wouldn't have reacted the same way is neither here nor there - this wasn't bad sportsmanship per se, but the opposite is good sportsmanship.
So you feel game rules can be disregarded in some occasions?

So does someone else and his position is directly opposite yours on all occasions, you know?

How is this reconciled? Play the game the way it is supposed to be played.

It sure seems like the group of people criticizing SVB over this is made up of people who generally didn't like him to begin with or are looking for any excuse to flame him.... And hey, you're welcome to not like the guy or "lose all respect for him" or whatever it is you want to do but you are 100% wrong for believing there is justification to condemn SVB over what happened. Just because telling him would have been a great gesture of sportsmanship doesn't mean not telling him is one of bad sportsmanship.
What is the history of these people with not liking svb?

I don't recall much chatter about people being far from neutral on him and certainly nobody is Harriman to his Schmidt.

I certainly don't recall any specific posters having consistently negative things to say about svb.

It's a shame matchroom doesn't have someone edit the matches down to shots only. it would be far more digestible.

i like pool and all the air time without pool playing makes it watching the matches quite hard.

In Karls interview yesterday Emily stated how happy she was that the clip of Joey shooting the wrong ball had gone "viral" with over 30k in views compared to just around 12k for other matches. No publicity is bad. She also stated in no uncertain terms are these horrible balls going anywhere. She stated that she wants this set to be the standard "9-Ball" set all across America. Claims she will give any room that wants one a set for free. Can you imagine you are playing at your room, go to the counter to rent a table and balls. Then they ask, what game are you planning to play? Oh, maybe some 8 ball, 9 ball and a little 1- pocket. Ok, here are your 3 sets of different balls, LOL, yeah that's going to happen. I think they signed a shity contract and are stuck with them. This set will never become standard.
Starting at 17:40.... this says it all. If you can do anything close to what Matchroom is doing for the game of pool, have at it big boy.

Do I like the pink four and purple five? No. But if I ever play in a Matchroom event, which is probably never, the first thing I will do is go out and get a set of the TV Blacks. Matchroom is doing big things for pool.. 10 times more than anybody else has done. If I want to play in their events, then I agree to use the equipment they require. It's that simple.

I bet Joey Tate wishes he would have practiced more with the Black TV set now. But Emily set him up.

with that long a career there's bound to be controversies and detractors. and mike d is probably his harriman, there's a story there not worth hearing

In the early days of IROC when they were using the little fruity cars Bobby Allison went out and bought a Porche to be familiar with them. Buying a set of balls doesn't seem too much to do!

Ok, big boy, lol.
Yeah, they are above critizim right? How dare we say anything against matchroom. Just take a ball set that everyone who plays American pool knows by heart by the colors and lets just switch one ball to another. How do you think snooker fans would react if the switched out Blue for the 2 ball to purple but then also made the 1 blue now. If purple is good enough for TV then why make another ball other than the 4 purple?
Listen BIG BOY, Matchroom is doing a lot of great things for pool but this isn't one of them and they deserve to be ridiculed for this.

Constructive criticism is one thing.. ridiculing is another.. I said if you agree to play in their events, you agree to use the equipment specified. If you don't like it, don't let the door hit you in the ass.. big boy.

Good for Emily! I dislike the colors too, but she made a great point in that interview. They're making stuff happen, and it's working very well. People are always going to complain about anything and everything, don't lose sight of what's important.

My favorite are the ones that don't have any commentating and there's only one camera on the whole time.

I just watched the interview.

I totally agree that what they have done to improve the tournament situation of professional pool is good. I agree on standardized pocket sizes. I agree the cloth color is ok. I still cannot understand why she cannot relent on the flawed decision process that resulted in a purple 4.

Ok, maybe the red 3, the pink 4, and the orange 5 were too alike. But pink was NOT a traditional color, so preserving it for a tv set and moving purple, a traditional color, was the wrong move. It would have been much less invasive to simply reinstate purple to the 4 and move the pink to the 5, IF THEY FELT THEY NEEDED A DIFFERENTIATION between red 3 and orange 5. But with good cameras, the grey cloth, and HD video, even that obviates the need to move away from the traditional colors.

I just wish that, while she can tout all the good MR has accomplished, and I applaud them for that, she would admit the mistake moving purple to a different ball.

For aramith, 123 are primary colors, 456 secondary colors. You got a purple 4, orange 5 and green 6. Then they noticed that some TV viewers get confused with 4 and 2 - so they created the TV Pro-cup set. 4 ball becomes pink and they also put more dots on the cb.
For this new set, could someone explain the color changes?

No, I’ve let my opponent shoot the wrong ball and gladly took the foul. Flip side is I've shot the wrong ball many times and it’s cost me $ as well. The player at the table IS responsible for his own game-not the guy in the chair-at all times. No exception

Yep I don’t call fouls on myself either. I’ll never lie about it but your job is to pay attention Not sit on your cell phone or chat with your buddies. I‘ve missed fouls and have always blamed myself never my opponent .

Couple of years ago there was a “can u beat SVB in a race to 100” group, and then the other one was “SVB doesnt have a world title” group. Made very long threads.
So now that DO beat SVB in race to 120 and SVB won W9B, AZB is now one big happy family.
