TCGT inserts have the deep chip breaker for alunimum... they are great on wood and plastic.
the 51 at the end signifies a 1/64 radius at the tip
one with a 52 at the end signify a 1/32 tip radius
TCGT21.51..... the 21 means it fits a 3/8 tool

51 is better for facing and wrap channel shoulders.
52 is better for turning imo.
Do you think you get a smoother finish with the 52 because it's larger??
I have just always bought the 51's and never thought about it.
Kim
Yes, when you are turning .
51's are too sharp.
Great for facing to avoid the glue lines.
Joey you are spot on!51 is better for facing and wrap channel shoulders.
52 is better for turning imo.

I would like to order some of these as well. I was looking at this chart:
https://www.carbidedepot.com/formulas-insert-d.htm
The 2 is the inscribed circle, what does that mean? Lol.
The 1 is the thickness, which seems pretty self explanatory.
I'm looking to install these on a 1/4" holder for a hightower lathe. Should I just go ahead and find a 3/8" holder to buy along with these? I have a QCTP, so I could drop the center down far enough to use bigger cutters.
I couldn't find this style of insert for a 1/4 tool .
Kim
It doesn't have to have a 3/8 tool. The picture at the beginning of the thread is the 3/8 cutter insert on a 1/4 inch tool ...I do it all the time it works
