I've been playing for about 3 months now and after just getting my Christmas bonus yesterday I thought it was time to buy a good players cue that I can use for the next year at least to continue developing my game.

I bought a McDermott lucky series for 80 bucks via eBay right when I got my table. I'm open to anything as this will be my first real cue, but I'm not sure where to start. I'm looking to spend between 250-500 maybe a little more depends.

Frankly, I would find th $100 - $150 cue you like best. Then use that to decide what you want in a $500 or so $ cue.

I understand what you're saying, and that may well be the route I end up going with, I know I won't have the opportunity to drop 300-400 on any one purchase for a little while and I was just looking to get something of some real quality for the money. Im open to any suggestions though, thanks for the help.

If you're intent on spending that much on a cue, the Josey cue in the first post on this thread looks to be an exceptional cue. http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=202007 Not sure what type of cue you're looking for, but from what I've been reading here Josey cues are considered to be top notch in playability. Other than the dent in the shaft, it's in mint condition. If the dent is a major concern, you can have it removed for about $25 at Seyberts.

Just so you're aware, I don't have any hidden motives behind recommending this cue.

Thanks for the replies keep em coming. Would I be better off going to a local retailer and trying different cues, it seems like I'd get way more for the money on here.

There are alot of awesome deals on here right now. I kindof agree with what was said earlier. Once you get into decent custom cues, they all have a different feels. Certain ones are stiff, some whippy. The weights are all different. Talk to some friends and the guys on here and try and get a feel for what you like.... do you like a stiffer hitting cue? weight? wrap/wrapless?
I do think if you have the money. right now is the time to buy. You can get an awesome deal just like the guys listed before me. best of luck.

Check out my post the says some
More cues for sale and give me a shout via email (stancc8ball@yahoo.com) or PM or call me @ 208-671-7269.

if your looking to spend that much..you cant go wrong buying a schon...

like the other guys said, times are tuff right now and especially around xmas, the deals are much better... you should have no problem picking up a used 700$ cue for 3-400$.. i recomend a schon, everyone locally ive recomended that way all love em...that is unless your a meucci lover...;)

I'm too green to be a lover of anything particular. Right now my cue is 20oz I know I want something lighter and was thinking maybe a smaller tip (if advisable). Preferably something with two shafts that way I could see which direction i wanna go My cue right now definitely has some flex when hitting a harder shot and I have a lucasi break cue that is stiffer that I like the feel of.

call my store i have 100+ cues in stock, get you something nice.........Jim

For under $400 it's gonna be hard to beat that McDermott you've already got. There are a million cues in this world!!!! Do yourself a favor and try as many as you can before making any decisions. And even if you find one from a maker that you like, the bad news is EVERY cue hits different. That's why I am a fan of McD's, they are (maybe 'were' would be the right word as I haven't held a new one in quite some time) more consistent than most all other production cues out there.

In short, try 'em all!

I have this brand new Jacoby I will sell for $320 shipped. The retail is around $550-$600

choices

Hello harbor wind.. my first real nice cue was a Jacoby I picked up for about $300 us. Im close to wisconsin and had the opportunity to meet brandon and dave and those guys are class acts to the T. The amount of work that they put into their cues is amazing and the cues play like dreams. My second choice would be a Nova. I had the opportunity to buy one from a guy here on AZB. The butt is warped but I couldn't pass up the deal. I'm glad I didn't. I tell you what, if you get a chance to get ahold of a NOVA cue, that thing will blow your mind! An azb member "harris___" something has one up for sale that is within your range with two shafts. There is also a list on this site that shows what cue has been rated the "best" by azb members. I believe it is in the main forum but easy to find. Good luck with this all Tsunami and follow your own thoughts on what to buy.

I like the Schon idea which was posted on here. For me, any Schon I have tried hit about like the others and was a great cue. Be wary of a Schon which someone improved by retappering, etc. All in all, buying a Schon is excellent advice.

Schon would be custom, if they made cues by yours specs. They are truely a quality made custom cue, just not personalized. That said, a used custom isn't personalized to you either.

I'm gonna bump this one more time just to see if I can get some more advice. I'm soaking it up guys, keep it coming. Thanks.

$300-400 - can't beat a RAT cue. Check out some of his stuff on Mueller's website or you can reach him directly here. He posts as "ratcues"
