As far as I am concerned, Gary is completely correct here. I consider that rule to only apply to the Ask the Cuemaker section.

Dave,
I am as much a stickler for forum rules as anyone, however, you have your forums mixed up. In this forum, there is no such rule. The restriction on posting sources is in the "Ask The Cuemaker" forum - that and the other rules are posted at the top of Ask The Cuemaker as a "sticky". There is no "sticky" in his forum.

I dont get it ,why have the rule at all then? If you wanted to make the rule effective then this particular sub forum should be private and only open to cue makers that way supplies could be exchanged without concern.

I agree 100%. The rule serves no valid purpose. From whom are these sources supposedly being concealed from and to what end?

What interest in most of the things being sought here does John Q Public really have and knowing where they come from hurt? It's not like cue components are being itemized on the finished product.

With all due respect to Mike(AZHOUSEPRO) the owner of this forum....IMO, you're wrong for allowing this, plain and simple. If you were a cuemaker, maybe it would be more clear to you as to why this subject is important. If you are going to have a rule, then enforce it across the board, otherwise, DON"T have the rule at all. Why restrict in one area and then give free reign on the same subject in the next??? I think a better response from you, explaining why it's okay in one section and not in another is owed to the cue builder membership here. A protected source is just that...protected. At this point, all info I normally have shared thru pm will no longer be shared at all, as these sources have been built over time, or shared privately thru trust, and now basically due to your 'ruling' I will not risk that info being thrown to the wild. I am not alone in this thinking, just one of the few that have the balls to say it. I sincerely hope you rethink this.

This getting fun. :D
I think you have to pick and choose your arguments.
Ex.
Joint screws. Pretty basic.
Wood suppliers. Hell no. History has proven, once you give up your wood sources. The quality you use to get. You no longer get. The new guys get it.
Rules in ATCM are obviously different to mainly avoid the.
I can do that job for 9.95 pissing contest B.S.
Me personally. I think everyone should have to post an email address to thier signature. Not everyone likes to do pm's.

I think the wholesale sources not being listed openly on this forum should be the same as the rules in Ask The Cuemaker Forum since it is the same basic group of people and business. I just never thought about this forum really being different from the other one as both were started by the same cuemaker to talk about two different parts of the cuemaking business.

Fyi. Actually. They were both started by Mike Howerton.

Pretty much nails it. Some things will be shared with whomever asks whether publicly or privately. Others will not be disclosed anywhere. So may as well just go ahead and post where to get hardware, chemicals etc openly or ask and not be answered for other stuff. The market will sort that out without any need for external moderation. JMO of course.

This might be where we self police.
Do you guys just want to give out sources to everyone who asks?

The info you give freely to someone you don't know, or just post them in the open might bite you in the jazz later on.
Imagine this scenario, " $30 to do that ? I read it only costs $2.50 to buy that part ."

I say use PM and only to those you think are worthy of your help.

Very eye opening......

28 replies in a wtb joint cap pins thread?....I knew right away something was amiss!
Things I don't understand.......
Why can I live in Arizona and if I'm not a felon, without a concealed weapons permit put a handgun behind my pants belt and be 100% legal? But, if I cross the state line into California and get pulled over for speeding and the man pats me down, I could possibly be introduced to the CA penal system. I am only allowed to protect myself in Arizona but not in California. :(

How a sticky in one sub-forum of the Products Talk forum would only apply to that particular sub-forum? Wouldn't that allow you just ask the same question in a different sub-forum under the Products Talk forum without breaking the rules?

Well, I did that and thought it was all good until.....

I say. Set up a poll. Whatever the majority votes in favor of, then ask Mr. Howerton to make a sticky in the top of this section. We are the one's people are asking so I think we should have some say. Mike's pretty cool for an Arizona boy :D
He might go along.

Good point. I guess I should have stated that the idea for both forums were given to AZ by the same cuemaker. I do think most of the Ask the Cuemaker forums rules should apply to this forum.
