WTB/ Phillippino cue...........who makes the best?

Hello!

I have a Doc Holliday made by Edwin Reyers if you are intrested.

Good Luck!

BJ

For me, the BEST that was is VIATTORRE... They studied what made the best cues out there the way they are; SW was one of their favorite studies. They didn't succumb to customer pressure to fast track the cues (hell, I got my very simple solid Purple Heart after 15 months!) since quality was their top priority... They also CURE their wood really well... If I'm not mistaken, they were the ones who introduced a wide range of EXOTIC wood in the Phils just like this one we call KIROII:

There are now many new Filipino cue makers since the time of ER & Viattorre, some old timers are now coming under the spotlight. So, who now makes the best? I'll let others decide... ;)

My vote would be the general, I've heard nothing but great things about his cue an the man. I pm him once he got back to me pronto gave me some very helpful advice, super nice man. He will build my next cue. Skip

I was going to buy a cue from Bebot but was skeptical because they wanted me to Western Union the funds...anyone had any issues with Bebot?

How much are you looking to spend? I will try to get pics. for you but i would like to know more about what you are looking for.

I have bought probably 12 or 13 of Joel's cues and had him build me 7 custom cues. With that many being said I've only had one problem with one of the earlier cues butts, had a little roll to it after about 8 months.

I sent one back to Joel that had a roll in the butt after 5 months. It's been more than a year now and all I've gotten is email replies with one excuse after another as to why he hasn't fixed or replaced.

Would never have sent it back but when I emailed and told him of the problem he was more than willing to work with me.

So much for that - lesson learned

Huh,That sucks man,I've never really had any problems with him that we didn't get worked out.I've got a 60" full splice custom coming this week.He built one for me several weeks ago but he made it 58" and had to redo it...

I can tell you that Western Union does work just fine. It is a bit more hassle than paypal because I have to take cash to a WU outlet but there is one in a supermarket very near my home.

When I get to the market it only takes about 15 minutes to complete the transaction. I have to use a special phone to call WU and give them the details. They then give me a PIN reference number and I give that to the manager at the market. He uses the PIN number to call up the transaction, I give him the cash and he gives me the receipt.

On the receipt is a control number that you email to Les and he uses that control number to pick up the funds.

It costs about $12 to make a transfer.

Les confirms when the funds are received and sends the cue out when it is completed.

I have not found anyone on this site that has complained about being burned by Les and Bebot Bautista regarding the funds transfer.

I was told they do not use paypal because of the cost and also because of the control that paypal has in the seller redeeming the money.

Here the buyer pays the transfer cost. You must figure in an extra $12 for any cue you buy. But on the other hand the cost they quote includes air shipment from The Philippines. That must cost $50 at least and probably more.

Hope this helps.

I'm going to relight the fire under this old thread because I think it needs to be done. I bought a pre-made jump cue from the_general(Bebot Bautista). It has been a good jumper. At one time he required Western Union, and I know some Americans think Western Union = scam. I too thought this, but if you get your money to the_general, I can vouch he will get a nice cue back to you.

Now they take Paypal also.

In addition, I bought a Dindo Perez through dgem as my main player. Everything about that deal has gone well. I have had the cue for 2 years. It is still straight as an arrow, which says a lot, living in Japan. We don't have central heat and therefore humidity and temperature fluctuate alot in the apartment. It moved here from the USA and is still straight.

Between these two, I have had good experiences.

His name was Jonathan Tornea, lastly was known as Miranda cues.I dealt with him on probably 18-20 cues.

What I can tell you is that this Jonathan guy is an aXX, be aware and do not deal with him in the future, this guy is a perfect lier, so many years ago at Miranda I dealt with him more than 20+ cues but he never took responsibility for the flaw or damage items

I saw that MnM Viattore cue in person and it is amazingly beautiful. I also hit the cue and it plays awesome. The guy selling it is a great guy to deal with also. If I had the cash on hand I would grab that cue in a heart beat.

Miranda

I bought 2 Miranda cues a few years ago and was happy with what I received. Jonathan was easy to deal with and I paid via Western Union with no problem. I sold one cue and kept a very nice cocabola and ivory cue.The points are clean with nice veneer work. I put a Moori tip on the best shaft and it plays pretty solid. The other shaft has a roll to it. I never bothered to ask about a replacement as I have had this cue 5 years or so.I was a bit surprised that the stick was covered in a water based black paint ,made it easier to go thru customs I guess. A bit of alcohol and some elbow grease and it came clean.I can't complain for what I paid. Hope this helps...Chuck
