God I hate to use "Runde Era" for this but I have a bug up my ass to see if the old shaft hits better than the newer ones. So what I want is an old Schon shaft that is 100% pre-logo and preferably made when Bob Runde was still running the shop. Stitch rings preferred but not a deal breaker.

Tidbit: How many of you know that silver rings on Schons used to be an option that was priced at $25 more PER RING?

Don't answer that and clutter up the thread. Just tell me what you have and how much you want for it and if we can trade for something I make or not.

Mattb

I think you need to contact MattB. He had a stitch ring shaft for sale just a few weeks ago. He may still have it and it might be worth the time to contact him.

John - you don't make anything. Your team of Chinese artisans do.

Sorry too easy. :p Happy holidays.

Neither does, Giorgio Armani, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, Donna Karen...just saying ;)

How do you know? I make a lot of things. Do you want to trade for any of them?

I mean that I make things by myself on my machines with my own hands. Just because I don't show them off or brag about having done it all by myself doesn't mean I don't make things.

But in the larger sense the things I make also include every item made in my shop by my people. All the people in my shop make cases and other things because I tell them to do it and show them how to do it. They are only here working for me because I put all this together so everything that comes out is my product, made by me.

Maybe you are under the impression that I can't actually DO anything. But you'd be wrong because I can run every machine in my shop, every sewing machine, the laser, the die cutter, etc... and I have built most of the jigs and designed several of the tools and machines we use.

The assumptions you guys make are really funny sometimes. Not so easy really Steve, you missed the target but nice try.

But Merry Christmas to you too. I hope that you get everything you want and everything you deserve. :-)

It was meant as a joke John --- thus the smiley face. You missed the target, not me.

I know you can make things but have discovered the value of others making it for you.

p.s. I have a brand new OB 2 shaft, untapped - that I would love to get rid of. Can I trade it for a case?

I know it was a joke Steve. I answered for the people like Randy that can't wait to pounce on stuff like this, well half and half, you know me and my defensive insecurities....

The Schon I am waiting on is coming with an OB-1 shaft already. I want to try that out first as I have never really tried the OB shafts for more than a few minutes. If I like it I might come back to you on the trade.

Old Runde Shaft

From my limited experience, I found that the older Schon shafts do play much better than the newer ones. Mine was stiffer, had better feel, and better tone.

I had an R13, SP series, and an old early 90's cue. The SP had the newer shaft with the logo, the R13 had two original with stitch rings, and the old 90's custom had a pre logo Schon shaft. This is my experience in the past year with each of these cues.

The old 90's custom and R13 hit much stiffer and you could feel the difference. I put the shaft of the SP cue (logo) on the R13 to see if it was just im my mind, and, you instantly could feel the differences. No theory in my book, the older stuff is better quality. Oh yeah, the older R series shaft on the SP had the same outcome, the cue just hit more solid.

I can also say that a shaft made by Mike Johnson (Jensen) play even stiffer than any of the Schon shafts I tried. I would have put one of the Jensen shafts on the Schon, but, the pilot was too large. I am sure Mike could make a shaft you would love with the stitch rings and to your specs.

This is just my observation from my limited exposure to testing out different shafts with the same pin/joint combos. I hope this has helped a little.
