Hey AzBilliards, I don't understand why my thread on "What's the best kind of glue to use" gets deleted b/c of advice given on how to install cloth on a one piece slate. Deleted....however, you have a "sticky" thread on how to install and level a 3-piece slate table. This forum is extemelly biased. Is it because I'm new to this particular forum? Please enlighten me as to why my thread was discriminated? Thanks.

yeah, I see...it's funny because a few were worried about giving their secrets of the trade away, however, they'll allow a full detailed sticky on a 3pc. slate install and level. Does this not take away from your customer base as well?

I wrote them instructions...and believe me, I left quite a bit out...for that reason;)

That's alright John, I think these guys were just leaving, and these were their last parting shots at all of us:rolleyes:

So you you go through the time and trouble of writing these instructions and "leave" alot of things out? So, what is the point of writing them? To show you know how to do it? Seriously....this forum bites. I don't disagree with your instructions on here....but why can't I get instructions for a one-piece slate install/level/recloth? Just shows the kind of biased BS that goes on in these kind of forums. Only the long timers are alowed to ask questions pertaining to DIY jobs. Does the word Un-American mean anything to any of you?

Are you kidding me? It is certainly not the American way to give away your knowledge for free. Have you seen any colleges that are free? Do the professor's teach for free? THERE IS NO FREE RIDE IN LIFE! If this forum bites than fine another one.

yeah, only certain type of tables can be free.....I don't want free info from any of you guys anymore. My point is not free information. My point is the fact that some info. Why is that "sticky" ok? And my question about a 1pc slate is not ok? That is what's Un-American....not the fact that it's free or not.....pay more attention. Anyway, I will find a better forum...one that doesn't discriminate....

I'll tell you what, the best mechanics in this country are on this forum, if you can find better on another forum....that will give away the info you're whining about for free...you should stay there as well:rolleyes:

thats the best advice you've given me by far.

Anyway, I've said my piece, therefore, my arguement is over.......thanks.

Some people just can't afford one of you high priced mechanics to travel 500 miles. So they ask questions and its this forums perogative to answer them or not. Seems more clandestine in here every day:eek:

I think some have to understand too that not everybody has the luxery of having good mechanics around. I know I for one have read through the "hack job" post and it scares me to let anyone I don't know touch my table. I know that I can do most anything that needs to be done on my table, it will take me much longer then a good mechanic, but with patience I can acheive the same end result. I don't expect a step by step, but a point in the right direction and perhaps some "do nots" would be bennificial for those of us undertaking this by ourselves. and who knows, when the oilfield goes bust, maybe i'll look at a new profession in it. I mean, somebody has to take over for all you old farts!!!!!!!

I hear what you guys are saying, and I DO agree with you on the fact that there really is NO WHERE to turn to that is worth a shit when it comes to....hey, where can I learn to work on MY own table from. You have to understand, that information takes a while to put together in a format that serves to answer all those questions.

I am in the process of creating the "Billiards library of DVDs" that covers this whole industry, everything you've ever wanted to know, to answering all your questions.

I mean, it's simple...."I found a GC1 I want to buy...how hard is it for me to move it myself?"....is answered in a down-loadable DVD...real simple, it takes you through all the steps of taking the table apart, the tools you'll need to do the job, how to address a stripped out slate screw when taking the table apart....to how do you get the rails off....if one of the rail bolts is cross threaded:grin:

All the way up to changing the cushions, installing the cloth, leveling....everything you'd ever need to know....as a table mechanic....to a DIY person. I have no problem with people knowing how to do this kind of work right....from the start, I have a problem with not getting paid for what I've spent 27 years of my life learning and doing for a living.

I know you look at it as "hey, I just want to work on my own pool table, what's wrong with that?....and I DO understand that, but teaching you how to do that in an open forum is just not the way to do it. Ive helped plenty of people on here install their own pool cloth...but not in the open forum.

If you can't understand what I'm talking about, then you're just being selfish and you know you are. As I've said before...I don't own anyone anything when it comes to what I've learned as a mechanic, that I have to give it away for free...and neither does any other mechanic that posts on here.

What we have tried to do...is show you the difference between right and wrong when it comes to some table mechanics and how they work. But you have to give us the time it takes in order to provide you with the needed tools of our trade secrets...so you can replace us when you want to do the work on your own.

And believe me, I know some of you guys don't live anywhere near a table mechanic, or if you do....you can already work on your table better than they can, which is why you don't want to call on them to do the work.

The DVDs are close to becoming a real library, as the first moves have already been made in that direction, but there are some others involved that seem to take a little longer to move...so it's taking a little longer than I'd hoped for....but, we're close:grin:

as a mechanic sometimes I choose to or not to answer questions. but if your post was removed that bs. maybe your post was removed for another reason.

Some people just can't afford one of you high priced mechanics to travel 500 miles.

Define high priced??...I'm probably the highest priced table mechanic in this country job for job...but with the jobs I get, sometimes they also take 2, 3, 4 and sometimes 5 days to complete, so does that make me over paid, under paid...or...paid for the work I did?

I'd be real simple when I get to someone's house to just tell them...hey buddy, you need to just throw that table away and get you a new table because that things a piece of shit....but I don't do that, because I'm a table mechanic, and that means...can I fix this table, if so...what should I charge for this job?...how much are the materials going to cost?...in the end...is it going to be worth it...to the customer?...If a table is a piece of shit...do I still work on it...just because I need the money? Unlike most other mechanics, I do have the luxury of saying..."no thanks, I think I'll pass on this one"

Try to understand for a second, waking up Monday morning and taking a look at the work you have scheduled for the next week...and seeing you don't have ANY work coming in...meaning NO income, so you have to try and scramble up some work so you can keep up with your bills...that still have to be paid......AND THEN...you read about someone getting upset...because you didn't sit down for free...and post the information they were asking for....for free...all the while...thinking of how you're going to make it through NEXT week...with NO work scheduled, hoping someone will call your phone for work, but for back up....you start calling everyone you know with a pool table....to see if they need something done.

In OTHER words....put yourself in the shoes of a table mechanic for once, and a good one at that...BEFORE you pass judgment:rolleyes: while you put in your 40 hour work week!!!

Glen
