so many pool players end up with back problems. sure you do shoot better down low. but that comes back literally to haunt you later in life.

your body is not made to do that over and over. its a choice to make. pay me now or pay me later.
most players in sports suffer from ailments as they get older. it comes with the territory when trying to be the best.

us medical is expensive. so not having insurance can break a person.

Itā€™s the smart decision

Hands down the absolute best thing he could have done. I did the same, I wouldnā€™t do anything ā€œmedicalā€ in America period unless it was trauma care.

Not only does he play good, heā€™s super smart as wellšŸ’ŖšŸ’Ŗ. He will be just fine
Hmmm, I'm not sure if I agree with ya on this one buddy.

I have relatives (in-laws) in Moscow and we try hard to bring them to the US for any serious health issues.

Moscow has its own health insurance and you're assigned to a clinic based on where you live in Moscow. How good that particular clinic may be is hit or miss. If you want to choose where you go, it's out-of-pocket or you need to have private paid supplemental insurance.

I'm guessing he only returned there for treatment because he doesn't have medical insurance here.

Check this out (especially the second link...believe it or not, it's gotten worse since that 2016 article):

"A Bloomberg report ranked Russian healthcare last out of 55 developed countries based on the efficiency of state healthcare systems. Russian citizens seem to be of a similar opinion, with only 2% saying they were proud of the Russian healthcare system in a 2016 survey by Moscow-based polling agency Levada Center."

100%. we don't agree all too often lol
back problems can be career ending in snooker and pool. billiards is a little different (better) because of the higher stance. but it's still bending over, over and over again

i hope sky just has muscular issues, that's a lot easier to recover from than disc or spinal. john morra had bad neck problems but recovered and is playing at as high level as ever

he might get preferential treatment in russia since he is a public figure. and of course not being eligible for low cost or free care in the u.s. he must go elsewhere. or pay the piper.

it isnt going to get better and gone where he can continue to do repeat what he does now.

he has to find a way to play more upright and less often or find a better way to earn a living before it is going to affect him his whole life.

Agreed. I have a similar issue and even when it doesn't hurt, I'm still conscious of it and seldom get down as low as I would like. I have learned to play more upright, but it does come at a cost to my game. To compete and win at the level Fedor does, you gotta be hitting on all cylinders all the time.

That was the catalyst for him switching from playing left hand to right handed or vice versa. His dominant eye was opposite of the hand he was playing with and was causing neck problems due to him having to crane his neck to orient his head so his dominant eye was in alignment. I donā€™t know if Fedor will be able to make any ā€œeasyā€ tweaks like that to alleviate his issues.

no, i think for fedor it's congenital (i don't know much about scoliosis). but hopefully for sky it's muscular / tendon related

I have to disagree with those who say the medical care here in America is poor. I've had great health care here my entire life (I'm 67), and that includes my time in the Navy. Six weeks ago, I had open heart surgery to replace my aortic valve. All of my doctors (PCP, cardiologist, and surgeon) were fantastic. And from the time I checked into the hospital, until the time I checked out, everyone, and I do mean everyone, treated me wonderfully. They really did take great care of me. The hospital was clean, and everyone was extremely accommodating. I can't imagine how any other medical facility could do it better.

Just my 2 cents.

In his post he specifically states that he has "better connections" in Russia. That can mean many things. Maybe he has a family member, friend, neighbor, etc. who is a physician. Being cared for by someone with a personal stake in making sure you are taken care of makes a huge difference.

Maybe he knows somebody that runs a clinic? Could mean many things, not necessary to automatically jump to the conclusion that it has to do with quality of care or money.

The US is consistently ranked as having the best doctors in the world, I believe few would dispute that because it's so well documented through international rankings. I believe the bureaucracy and insurance grappling is what can lead to bad experiences.

This is what I was hinting at. Fedor is in his early 20s. I'm not saying that they don't have aliments but it just seemed really odd to me šŸ¤”
He does have back issues but I think he is fine and using it as an excuse not to play just like Woodward.

It's a long ass flight for a guy with back issues.

Shane said he would of stuck around at Griffs but had to do this event. He doesn't like it either. I think he can win more money at Griffs than this tournament if he decided to play all the disciplines. There are under contract for Bosnia.

I had an orthopedic surgeon tell me my left shoulder and back area were more muscular than my right. I am right handed but play lefty. Also have severe arthritis in my neck. Who da thunk after all these years.

Yet the usa is ranked number 48 for life expectancy, behind many, many countries with abysmal medical care. Also one of the most obese in the world. Why? Hopefully RFK figures that out. I have no doubt the usa has some great doctors. I also have no doubt that many of their hands are tied by Bureaucracy and many doctors arent allowed to doctor. Covid sure as hell showed that.

For those conspiracy theorists RE: imaging finding differences between US and Russia, this is likely just normal healing. Discs are jelly-like structures, and a bulging or herniated disc can naturally resolve within 2 weeks.

Having the best ranked Doctors is one thing. Getting access to those, without causing bankruptcy, is quite another. Sure it is great for filthy rich people who can self-insure. The rest of us, not so much.

Very popularly misunderstood statistics. Many (most) people don't know how to understand them, and misrepresent them as you have done here. It publicly perpetuates misunderstanding and causes more problems than one thinks they are trying to solve or illuminate by talking about them. I personally have medical experience in 9 countries and 15 states and have been in healthcare since about 1986, first as an RN, then MD, and I work in medical education and credentialing every day. I work with foreign doctors every day.

The best available medical care in the world is in the US. Period. Confusing healthcare with medical care is common.

As for the RFK nonsense, you might take that to the NPR forum. Same for the COVID nonsense. Yes, it is politicized nonsense you are spewing, get it out of the main forum (unsolicited advice).
