Dear all:

I would like to introduce you to a new website created by John Bidder of Florida: http://www.poolstudent.com/ In the site, there are vast amount of educational information and interesting puzzles

Here is an example for straight pool puzzle:

There is a good shot in this mass of balls somewhere, and it's your job to find it.

CueTable Help

For the solution, please go to http://www.poolstudent.com/Puzzle-02.php

It is really easy to start your own blog hosting CueTable diagrams. I have even created several ready-to-use templates for yo. Please check them out at http://cuetable.blogspot.com/

I would say the 11-12 combo into the 2 off the ball into the corner. What do I win?

I have not checked the answer yetm just wanted to get my post in.

Well, I just checked the answer. I am not sure I agree. I see the shot they are suggesting, and I see it if the balls were laying a bit different. If you had a clear hit on the rail, maybe. Playing the 9 off the rail into the 5, I don't know. I would still lean toward my original solution. I see both, but feel a bit more confident in making the 2 from that exact layout. Maybe if I set it up and played it, I would change my mind.

If I am interpreting the diagram right, the 9 blocks the combo you
want to play.
Also, the 9 into the rail is virtually a 'straight in' and tickying the 9
into the frozen pair makes the 5 almost unmissable.

All in all, if this layout were in a One Pocket game
where I was betting my lunch money - I'd shoot it in a heartbeat.

Thanks for the site.

Wei: What did you ever do with the video you took of the World 14.1 championships? Is anyone ever going to get to see it??

The problem is that it is sometimes hard to see tangent lines on the screen. It is sometimes hard to see tangent lines on the table, too. Exactly where the 2-5 tangent goes is critical to the shot; if it goes to the left corner of the pocket, one ball is dead, if it goes to the other corner of the pocket, the other ball is dead, and if it is somewhere in between, maybe both balls go. On close inspection, I see that the 2 and 5 are not frozen, which can make a big difference to kiss shots. Also, it is not clear whether the 9 clears the 11 to hit the rail and then the five -- it does, but barely. If the viewer goes into edit mode and uses the tools like the tangent line, these things are easier to see.

Okay, that tangent line helps. I am very confident that either the 2 or the 5 can be made with the layout as it is.

I do see that the 5 is almost certain and the 2 is probably less so.

Nice layout, cool site.

Thanks for posting it.
