He's right at the end of his stroke when shooting the 1.. Looks like he hit that 1 too thick/soft because of that. Should've pulled out the bridge. He also caught the corner-pocket point to scratch in the side, which was a bit unlucky. Just a hair more outside or a hair thicker to avoid that and he's probably on the 4.
 
It's tough to tell how much room the 9 gives to get on the 3. If it's too tight then I'd definitely try what Sky tried.

If there's room, I'd probably try to get mostly full on the 3. Even if you have a small angle away from the 4 it's fine. If you get thin on the 4, you can always hit he gap between the 5-9 rolling with a little outside.

And if I'm really too thin on the 3, then I can try what Sky tried / what PJ suggested.

Make the 1 and try to get as thick or straight in on the 2 as possible, proceed to get my jump cue out :LOL:

I think that's a better option than 4-rail lmao

I hate moving balls when its not necessary but I think I would try bumping the 9 to hold the cue ball. Its almost impossible to get a good angle on the 2 that wont send the cue ball up table.

I think he went short off the first rail because he didn't use enough right. The scratch to the side is only possible if he hits the jaws of the corner pocket so he got a bad roll with his bad shot.

the 1 is deep enough so you can almost hit it square in the face with lots of low right and draw off the short rail. and bring it to wherever you want past the 9 ball for the 2 ball. rest is easy depending on where you choose to fall on the 4.

i just set it up and did it no problem.

Yeah, he did hit the tits. I think if he hit right before them, he would have come just beyond the side pocket about 1/2 diamond and missed position anyway. I might be able to recreate this shot tomorrow on a 7' Blue label diamond on video.

If you rewind the video a hair you can see he was putting his stick about where he wanted the CB to be, and it would have been a fuller hit on the 2.
 
One shot I usually avoid is - well it's so out of use I don't even have terms for it. You hit the one full and right spin the CB off the bottom rail as flat as possible, all the way to the opposite side rail. The cue ball goes above and past the two - counterintuitive to me but there you are, cake.

It does seem to be laying about right for that shot. I'll try it tomorrow hopefully.
