Yang vs. Orcullo

Because they wouldn't get it.
They have no real bargaining chips.

Start trying to run the money up too high, and you wind up with another IPT.

Did he go Taiwan?

I don't know. I was kind of underwhelmed by this match-up. I guess after the WPC for 100 dimes and the IPT money - just the amounts that were paid out and the fact that the players were playing under the assumption and pressure that they were getting paid in the last one - kind of makes a race to 60 for 10dimes publicly seem kind of lackluster.

However, like I said, it does show to some degree the potential for "rivalry" style matchups. Kinda like the old days when you had to accept all challenges for the title or forfeit it.

I think Mosconi successfully defended his World Champion title six times in one year.

The players used to negotiate a part of the gate receipts. I don't see why they shouldn't negotiate now for a bigger slice of the pie. I didn't see the broadcast but I bet somebody somewhere paid for advertising on it and I bet it was well more than $10,000.

John I agree Dennis still has anyone's respect for outrunning the nuts at Derby City like it was a cakewalk.

About Yang- He has my respect as the best 9ball player in the world. I'm not taking anything away from Dennis. I would like to see a rematch and make them play 10ball, I think it would be alot closer this way.

I am eager to see if Efren accepts Yang's challenge. In a long race format, even with Yang having the best break in THE WORLD, I don't think Efren will be easy to beat, because the longer he plays, the better he plays.

I am also interested if anyone has interviewed Orcullo himself after this match. What were his reasons? Did he play bad because of the pressure? Or did he play great, but just not get enough opportunities because of Yang's perfect safeties and continous break and runs? Anyone know?

That might be the difference between Dennis and Efren. Efren's mastery on kick shots and counter-safeties are unparalleled. I think that what Dennis lacks. May I ask if Dennis missed any easy balls at the DCC? he played a bit tight during this encounter with Yang. and also surprisingly, is his utilization of the soft break, which didn't worked for him at all. maybe it's the new Samsara's fault ! :D

There's a lot of checking going on in this thread. This is a pool forum not a hocky forum.:D Johnnyt

Just curious
Who did Orcullo play at DCC besides Bartrum?
How did they play?

He only played Bartrum because nobody wanted any piece of him after he was done with Bartrum

He gave him the 8 ball the first night and beat him after four hours.

He gave him the 7 ball the following night and the ahead game took only a little more than three hours to finish.

He said that he could have given him two balls if they were playing ten ball and it would not matter to him. He would still be robbing him.

So, you want a piece of this guy? Thought so!!

So he matched up with ONE guy at the DCC?

And who the hell is Bartrum?

I think it's time to crawl out of that cave you've been living in.

Breaking was the big difference. Both had 8-rack run. Yang's break was on fire during day 2.

Someone who has taped the entire match should compile some statistics. Two interesting stats would be the percentage the breaker made a ball on the break and the percentage the breaker made a ball AND had an open shot on the one. I think these two stats would tell you a great deal about the match.

If Orcullo's and Yang's breaking numbers are similar, then it can be argued that Yang just totally outplayed Dennis. If Yang's breaking numbers are significantly better than Dennis', then it can be argued that his superior break was the determining factor in the match.

Much rep to anyone that can compute these stats.

Dennis also competed in the ringgames at DCC, and if my memory is correct he started with a 5-pack in 10-ball ringgames and robbed the others.

Your close, it ended with the 5 pack, everyone unscrewed after the 5th rack.

by the looks of it, he really doesn't ! maybe you should give him Bartrum's contact number or home address, so that he'll become well acquainted with him ! :D
