I just saw a tourney where bars table were brought in for a big tourney, for a 64 player tourney. Then they charged $1.50 a game. I played in one in Orlando and spent over $200 in quarters. When I mentioned something about it on the chat, naturally some guys says, "how much do you think it cost to bring in the tables?" I think it's bulls***t when the green fees are WAY higher than the entry.
To warm up and get adjusted to the tables would cost $50 or more for a weekend tournament, not to mention, hotels, gas, food, entry, green fees, etc. If you get 2nd place you might break even. Just tired of the players getting taken advantage of.
I notice the only people that have something to say positive about it are the people running it. Have to wonder if the flyers they sent out, even had it on there. Every time I've seen this, it was always a surprise, and now all the players are already there. Wonder if they took money out of the entry pot also???
This is one reason there is no money in pool.
They tried this in one of Tony Crosby's event, and Tony put his foot down immediatley and threatened to move his tournament to another location right then. Problem solved, tables opened!
This is one of the reason Archer started a player union, to stop the players from getting taken advantage of, and to put the money where it belongs, back to the players.

I totally agree with you, bar tables are a very important link to the pool comeback along with the great computer feeds. They are pricing the games and themselves right out of business. Not that long ago you could play pool and win drinks all night and even a little cash, but now the table gets it all.

Not complaining about bar table fees in pool rooms as much, but to use it for green fees in a weekend tournament is ridiculous. They green fees should only be about 10% of the entry, not 3 times the entry.

I know the law , friend !

Hey there Chipperd !
Don't know or care about the rest of the world , but I do know about the law in Florida .
1) in the course of a pool tournament where an entry fee is charged , the actual competition tables must be provided free of charge . In the case of coin-op tables , that means opened. It is allowable to charge for practice tables .

2) All pool tournaments in the state of Florida which charge an entry fee must be value-added events . i.e. , they must pay back all entry fees plus an additional 60%.

Many promoters are unaware of this section of Florida's liquor statutes. Enforcement is by the state Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco .

hope that helps

Maybe we should just charge them to show up. I think 1.50 is a bit too much, they pulled a gotcha (whatcha gonna do leave over .50).

Maybe its time to take your money back into the pool halls and play on the grown up tables. Bar box events are killing pool halls and by the sounds of it will kill themselves. Nine ball on nine foots. Eight ball on eight foots. Support your local pool rooms.

Man that is just wrong. If you look at it this way it might change things. I was at the US Open and it was a Diamond table beside our booth. ALL WEEK it was people going to it and jumping balls and they beat that table to death. It was rented by someone to let people try their sticks (Jump) it was people jumping on it that were just doing it for the hell of it. Needless to say it had to be recovered when it left. Now that is at a cost of $400 bucks by the time you buy the cloth and labor to do it. Not to mention what damage was done to the slate. I agree with you it is way to much to charge for a game of pool but after seeing people do things like they did to the diamond table you would have to ask if it was mine what would I do? If you bring in some table for a tournament and know things like this will go on all week would you charge more? If it was me I would have told the guy that was holding the tournament that we will keep the price at 1.00 and he would be responsible for anything that got tore up. In Va we have a traveling Moose tourney every month and it is 75 cents a game but the people that own the tables will not put up with any BS when it comes to rough play. If you have to jump a ball in a game that is one thing but to stand their and practice it is a no no. I have learnt that most pool players do not respect a table so if I had the tables and am going to set a tournament their would have to be rules in order to keep the price down. If I went to a tournament and it cost that much to play I think I would just have to walk away and not play. That is the only way things like this will stop. Charge a green fee and open the tables is the best way I think and make the players respect the equipment.
