You say APA is for bangers?

Ditto

Every time I read comments saying if you want to get better ditch the APA I tend to shake my head. I play masters only now, but in my league there are several GSBT tournament winners, Viking Tour winners, US Open cashers and US Amateur winner/high placers. I am either lucky, or the others don't take the time to look around.

So they were bad players and got better by playing apa? I doubt it. The fact is in the apa if your a low level player your team doesn't want you to get better lol They need you to continue being a 2 or 3. Apa is like a double edged sword..it's great that it's getting a lot of people to play the game but I'm not sure it's doing much to increase the skill levels of players.

Not true of everyone. It simply isn't.

Is it inconvenient when players get moved up, sure. But I know that many people have been encouraging as I've progressed, including people on the teams that I've played on. I am the same way towards other newbies, now.

There are always going to be players that won't progress. They aren't interested enough to work on their game, and that's cool. They're having fun, and they know where they're at. These people make up the bulk of the league, at least around here. Then there are those who are striving to get better, and then there are the players at the top.

Yes, there will be advancement, and it can make team management a challenge occasionally. But ask yourself this? When you see the people you play with, can't you tell the ones who are going to improve, and thus have their Skill Level raised? Then whose fault is it for not being ready when that happens? Because its going to.

Today at our 9 ball qualifier The guy who took 7th at USBTC was playing. Gabe Apollos was playing. So much for amateurs only in APA

There are some VERY good amateurs in the APA.

In Md there was a player named Joey Ryan who was playing in a Masters playoff. His opponent chose 9 ball and told Joey to shoot while he went to the restroom. When he got back Joey had just finished running 7 racks to close out the match.

7 racks eh, must have been quite a long shit. Or the guy can run a rack a minute and still have time left over to rack the balls nice?

I thought the same thing, but I know that Joey has a dynomite break - agreed, it must have been a long shit. This story is true - I have heard it from more than one person.

This was done on a bar table.

So whats more incredible, the 7 racks or the length of the shit? Sorry wolf, but that just blows me away.

I didn't know any league would make you better over the others. I always thought practice, hard work, and determination did that. Anyone that DESIRES to get better will try regardless of which league or if there is a league.

I have nothing against APA - I think it's great for generating interest in pool. I no longer play it but my issues with it were a) slow play & long nights, and b) the handicap system doesn't have enough gradation. A B in BCA will be a 7 in APA but so will an O+. A B vs an O+ is a total mismatch.

I find the APA definition of an amateur very funny. SO by their definition guys like Donnie Mills and Oscar Dominguez are amateurs since they hold full time employment and do not make their living from pool? Someone needs to tell them to join the APA. 10k package for winning 9 ball or 15k package for winning 8 ball. I am sure those guys would spend a couple hundred bucks to qualify for singles. Not saying if either one of them entered they would automatically win but I am sure they would like their chances! Definitely a much better possible payday vs most of the tournaments around the country.

Tappity-tap-tap.

No no no no no! The APA would ban these players from the APA because they play in pro tournaments and win money doing it.

This guy was banned, I'm told

Interesting to note that the 2006 was $ 7K of IPT money. I am leaving his name out of it, since it is just rumblings. Regardless, I am pretty certain the APA doesn't want Mills / Dominguez, et.al. in an amateur league. There may be shades of gray concerning definitions of pro for them.

There is the issue of racking your own or not. I suppose the opponent was ok with Joey racking his own?

While the story sounds suspect, I will say that I know Joey and he definitely has the ability to run 7 on a barbox. Nice guy too.

Just wondering they both had the runs?

Never said the league made them better. I was talking about ppl who believe apa has nothing but bangers in it. I should add that a league won't make you better, but a lot of practice and drive will.

While the players I spoke of got better without apa I am quite sure a few players on their teams will get better because they played with them.

IDK Eddie... Maybe your right... Maybe "APA" issss just for banggers.

Buttt the thing is... Even if it isss just for banggers.... Everybody's doin it... And if everybody's doin it, well then theres a lot of guys doin it... And If theres a lot of guys doin it...

Well then only one guy can be the best...
