You snooze you loose

You are correct. I don't understand why this thread was even started. I will address that privately, and not here.

As far as the decision, I just wanted to hear both sides before any decision was made. To me, that was the fair thing to do. After listening to both sides, it was a pretty simple decision to make.

There were a few posters who know me personally. I'm not dishonest and i certainly wouldn't tolerate dishonesty on the tour. They could have guessed what my decision would have been as well. The original poster obviously does not know me well enough.

Thanks Mike.

Dennis

This looks like a good thread to hi-jack because it never should have been started in the first place. It just goes to show how flames can get started when people start firing away without having a clue as to the facts.
Everyone in the state of AZ knows that Jimmy and Dennis are just a couple of low-lifes trying to get rich by running crooked tournaments and taking advantage of unsuspecting, honest pool player's.
If you believe that last sentence, then I suggest you try coming to Arizona and saying that. Nothing could be further from the truth.
I'm very proud to call them both my friends.

Dick

PS. Sactown Tom, It really would be nice if you would further clarify your remarks. You left a lot unsaid in both your replies.

Now that i read this closer, i believe Carlos was referring to he (the player) still insisting that the rule is "if you snooze you lose", not myself (the tournament director).

I hope i am reading it correctly now.

Dennis
Yeah Carlos was talking how Leil was messed up,not you Dennis.

I misread it as well. It does sort of read as if Dennis was defending the "snooze you lose" position. :)

Actually, Carlos started a GOOD thread. I must admit, I thought that he was saying Dennis agreed with the "Snooze you loose" rule too.

Everyone should just calm down. Carlos is good people. It's just a perfect example of how "words" alone can be misinterpreted without proper punctuation. Everyone realized about a page and a half ago that Dennis made a good call.

Responding to a thread without reading the entire post can only stir things up again.

Carlos = Good
Dennis = Good
Leil = Old School, playing over his head.
Tom in Cincy = Good
Bigtruck = Arm Sore, need stitches

Yes Carlos, I was pretty sure you were defending Dennis in your OP.
As the thread continued, I began to wonder why everyone took it that you were defending Leil. I did not mean to imply that you made an irresponsible post. Just goes to show how carefully we have to choose our words before we hit that submit button.

Efren did it too!

there is a match(7 ball,i think) on espn between bustamante and luc salvas.salvas is running out, get's on the seven and does not call the pocket, but it's obvious.he sinks it and bustamante cries foul.i know it's the rules but it wasn't like he lucked it in and cheated him.that has never sat well with me.

Efren forgot to call the 9 in the first set of the $50,000 final of the Challenge of Champions!

They each ended up winning one set. Efren then made a 90 degree cut down the rail from about 2 inches away from the object ball and got out to tie the sets!

On another occasion, I was reporting on the 2008 Texas Open finals, doing play by play, and thought Shane forgot to mark a game. I almost panicked wondering if I should tell him. I didn't say anything. Turned out, I made the mistake, he marked ALL his games correctly. The mind can play tricks on you in pressure situations.

Top 12 finishers, the pressure cooker is turning up the heat! LOL

One thing that should be mentioned. You guys are SOOOOOOOOoo lucky to have a big one pocket event. I don't know who organized it, but my hat is off to ya!!

Ray,

It's The Desert Classic Tour, run by Dennis Orender and Jimmy Mendoza.
They hold monthly tournaments in all disciplines, 8ball, 9ball, 14.1 and one pocket. Glad you agree they do a great job, just as you and Lewis, and others do in Texas. Lets keep ALL pool games alive. :)

You have to be kidding.. .Leil said 'you snooze you lose'?

Are you sure? And if it was indeed Liel Gay, I wouldn't be surprized. He is very old school.

and about your comment "Know before you speak"... I still think AZ players and posters 'standout' when compared to other players from around the country. How you take that is your perception.

Thank you for your comment about AZ players and posters....You are a real 'standout' guy yourself...;)

I was from Cincinnati, I now live in Sacramento.

I've seen Liel play since the early 90s. Great player. He played in lots of tournaments but is mostly known in the northern Ohio area as a gambler.

And one more thing, he and Mike Janis worked together in the Viking tour in the 90s.

All of this talk about trying to "steal" a game reminds me of a good story. Years ago, I was playing Jimmy King some one pocket. As usual, he made a terrible game (tried to give 8-6). We agreed to play $50 a game. After 6 straight losses, he upped it to $100. The ensuing 5 games found him stuck $800. I got an air barrel for the last game. This is where it gets good.

Now he's hot and offers to put up his cue against a nickel. I quickly agree because he hasn't won a single game. He submits we should race to 3 for the cue. No problem.

Well I win the first 2 games and low and behold the coins say its 1-1!

I bring this up and he says that is the true score and that he won his break and I won mine and now it is his break. After a heated discussion, I relent because the sucker is always right. As you might have guessed, he makes one on the break and runs out to make 2-1. Now I'm sick!

After a long battle, I win game 4 to tie it at 2. Hill-hill for the cue with him breaking.

He breaks poorly and run six and out, but...I DON'T CLAIM VICTORY IMMEDIATELY. I proceed to play the game for a while shooting at flyers and selling out.

With four balls on the table, I leave him straight in and he runs two. While he is down on what he thinks is the case ball, I stop him and tell him I have six and the game is over and I didn't sleep it this time. He argues and argues. I keep responding "Jimmy, I can't help it if I already have six." The game ends and he is really hot. We end up fighting over the cue. My buddy intervenes and tells me to let him keep it because its not worth it. I was hot and didn't want to, but my buddy was right.

At least we got the $800!

Dick,

AZ players and posters 'standout' because of the unique circumstances they bring to this forum.

It was not meant to be a SLAM on Airizona POSTERs, but I can now see where some of the more sensitive posters thought it was.

My apologies to all that were offended by this un-intentional posting.

I will make every effort not to respond to any more Airizona player postings.

Tom

Reminds me of that old game of operator, where a group of kids stand in a line, one whispers into the ear of the kid next to them then is goes down the line until the last person has to repeat what was said to them. Typically it turns out to be very different than what was initially started with the first person.

There was a woman that I played on a couple of old McDermott Tour events in the East Coast. Ironically the first two times we played the same issue occurred. She had a habit of marking her games on my side than denying that she had done it then arqued that the games she marked were actually hers, when in truth they were a mix of mine and hers. The first time we had to replay the game and had the TD "declare" who was red and who was white on the score pegs. Ok...I thought...than it happened a second time a couple months later and at that point I had heard she had also done the same thing to another person. Of course I was suspicious, who wouldn't be. However I did get to know her a little better and realized nope she was just seriously that ditzy.

We did become friends down the line and she was a lot more careful in the future. "Snooze you lose" hopefully after this thread will not play that shark again.

Know the score!!!!

First off lets make this clear, the game they were playing was 1 pocket. Honestly, how can you play "3" games and not remember one? The guy was clearly trying to pull a fast one here.
I can understand when playing 9 ball and you are racing to 9 and forget to mark one game. It could be arguable whether you marked it or not in the middle of a set. 9 ball games go quick and it would be eaay to foget to mark one.
This was a 1 pocket tournament, almost impossible to forget a game when race is just to 3. Lets get serious here, mark the game and move on. These games were taking 10 - 25 minutes per, how do ya forget?

Tom,

I have always percieved you to be one of the good guys. I can see you work hard to run good tournaments etc. I just have to ask one thing....
I want to know if your spelling of "Airizona" was a tongue-in-cheek reference to the Chuck Bobbitt fiasco we had earlier this year.
I doubt I was the only one who caught it. Pretty clever Tom. (maybe)
You are way to intelligent not to know how to spell "ARIZONA"

Dick

PS. Any friend of Chuck M. (RIP) is a friend of mine.

That was a backhanded apology if ever I saw one. Although I am not from Arizona, I have lived here for several years now, and I'm a pool player. I guess that makes me an "Arizona player" by default. Shall I assume that you have some sort of problem with me? We don't even know each other, so I find it hard to believe, but since you won't just come out and say whatever it was that you were implying, you insult all of us. Why not just say what you have to say instead of making some general comment directed at all of the players in AZ?

Were you talking about the situation with the pro event where the players weren't paid? That's the only real "black eye" that I can think of on AZ pool.

As far as calling the people who have questioned you on this "sensitive posters", I'm sure you would question them if someone made the same, generalized comment about Ohio tournament directors, or Sacramento tournament directors.

P.S. This site is owned by an Arizona pool player.

PLEASE that was not intentional... I am a bad speller I admit.

I appreciate your jest, but I assure you that I didn't spell that wrong intentionally.

Please forgive me... I really thought the OP was quirky and that is seems to me that in the past Arizona players and posters have some very unusual happenings that 'standout'. I am sorry to offend anyone.. but I see now that I have.

Sorry again....

Jimmy,

I'm glad it's not TXBilliards.com! LOL.

For one, there wouldn't be much in between T & Z. Secondly I think he was talking about AZBilliards peoples, not people from Arizona.

It seems TD's that run events for free or very little are the most sensitive. You guys seem to being running a great tour. Keep it light! Life is short, have a good time. I bet Tom in Sacremento is a great guy too. I'm not sure what you want an apology for, but it seems Tom explained the mis-interpreted post already.

Man I wish I lived in Arizona! You guys rock!

I never asked for an apology. All I ever asked for was clarification.

Thanks for the compliments. :)
