You snooze you loose

This is total crap! It shouldn't matter how many games you race to, a win is a win. Snooze you lose I always thought meant only for owing balls - if playing those rules, you would have to remind your opponent they owe a ball or they don't if you both remember after the fact.

One-pocket is the easiest of all the games to keep track of the score because of the shorter races and alternet breaks. If the same player is breaking that won the flip (or lag), the score is even (0-0; 1-1; 2-0; etc), if it's the other person, it's odds. I'll bet that the original breaker wasn't breaking during the 4th rack so it had to be 2-1 for someone. I have never heard of Snooze you lose for a game.

As I said, this is total crap and should never had taken place. If I were the tournament director I would have asked who broke and who won the flip - that would have told the story.

edit: sorry I just saw the posts above that basically said the same thing without the long wind : ).

I've seen it

This happens more often than you would think.....especially if the score is kept on the wire.......I've seen matches between pros where the one who won, racks his own and forgets to move the next ball on the wire....but never seen where somebody uses the "snooze-lose" BS....

Always, always, always, played One Pocket this way and I'm really surprised that others have never even heard of it.

This is not even a question of how you play "any" game. Its more about your morals. If you are down 2-1 you are down 2-1... it does not matter what game you are playing and where the coins are.

I can appreciate just forgetting... but to say yes you won two games but since you forgot to move your coin it does not count? BS!

It's not about morals, though I was pretty sure you or someone else would say so. It's each player's responsibility to keep up with the score, be it balls or games. It was a One Pocket fundamental when I learned to play. You play the score, be it balls or games.

This is what I was getting at in my post. One shot into the next game, he remembers, not a big deal. What if it were 5 games ago and he doesn't remember... until....

Player B, "You're on the hill. Uh oh."

Player A, "Oh wait, I forgot to mark that game two hours ago. So I'm not on the hill, I actually just won."

It seems like the longer you snooze the more it becomes a gray area.

They were both VERY aware of the score... it was just the coin had not been moved. Both players agreed that one guy had won two.. and the other had only won 1 game.

It's amazing to me that that sounds normal to you.

Here is a situation I had yesterday where I asked the TD what the other player was rated and he said the same as me so we both had to go to 5 games playing 9 ball.He gets up at 4-2 and I play it to make it hill-hill and say good luck.He says to me is there a spot,I said no since your rated the same and he said he was one rating lower but keep in mind he moved his coin to 4 and had me rack the balls and play to hill-hill,we played the last rack and I won 5-4.A few minutes later he comes and get me and says the TD wants to talk to me and then he makes the judgement I won.He later remarked that he would not make the same choice again but he said we played even when I asked him before the match,my opponent moved his coin to 4 instead of shaking my hand and then we played 3 more games,it was a weird situation,I ended up taking 3rd.

is it in the rules you have to keep track of games won? a race to three? i would have picked up my penny and said, "I can remember how many games I won,,, if you cant, tuff shit"...

It's like someone who steals a ball from you playing 1 pocket. If they get one from me, I take 2 from them and then just dare them to say anything.

You are what's wrong with this world.

I agree with this line of thinking, if it was a long race and several games had gone by it would be a different situation. Being the very next game I think it was only prudent to give the guy who won the game the game he won.

Something I could not believe came up this weekend at the AZ One Pocket State Championship.

Two good players were in a match (race to 3) They were a few minutes into game #4 when player "A" realized he forgot to move his coin to reflect his 2-1 lead. When he went to move it his opponent says... "No, you cant move it now... if you snooze you loose - the score is still 1-1 since you forgot to move the coin"

WTF??? I do not understand why someone would say that. If you know your opponent is ahead... they are ahead... it does not matter if they forgot to move the coin.

What was even more odd to me was when they were approached the tournament director (nice decision Dennis) he still insisted that the rule is "if you snooze you loose".

I call BS!

It is what it is. If you have two than two you have, regardless of weather the coin was moved or not. Especially if you both agree that you have two.

As far as snoozing balls, that is another story. I would let you snooze a ball only if it got in my way by putting it on the spot.

Try that in Texas.....

We got a saying for that type activity.........."Get the rope!".

Let's say it's 1-0, your opponent, and you win the second game making it 1-1, but you move the coin to 2! Your opponent notices it a few minutes into game # 3. Same rule Dennis?

This unfair type rule will kill a tournament faster than anything. FAIR calling and rules will make for a great tournament. No favorites, common sense.Period.

I hate to argue with you Ray, but this happens in Texas more than anyplace I've ever been. Granted maybe not so much in the tournament world, but it does in the action world and a lot.You have to watch it like a hawk.

I agree

Lewis,

I agree 100% that coin funny business goes on in gambling, but we are talking about a tournament here that has a TD that makes a call on the situation.

Here, in Texas, a fair, common sense call will be made. Most of the time.

Unless you're playing in the Fast Eddies 9 ball Tour, then watch your arse!! LOL. Especially when that Paul guy makes a call!! J/K Paul.;)

You guys are the best Lewis! If everyone ran their event like you & Paul, pool would have a better image.

Ray

"Bad call Dennis" IMO
