Your Favorite Cue Specs

In another thread about Kikel cues, somebody responded and said that his had a 21 1/2" balance point and he hated it. I guess it just goes to show that one man's poison can be the nectar from the Gods for another.
I don't know what the weight of his cue was, but that is one hell of a forward balance point. I don't know if Kikel bores out the nose of his butt and adds weight down there or what, but unless you have a pretty heavy shaft I'd like to know how it was done, especially if the cue weighed around 20 oz.

I probably would have LOVED that cue. Hell, I wish I'd have known it was up for sale.

Here are my specs that just give me the most feel that work perfectly for my tempo and timing. It's taken a lot of years to figure it out, but these are the weights and balance points of the cue that I use most and how it's distributed.

Cue Weight - 19.7 oz.

Butt Weight - 14.9 oz.

Shaft Weight - 4.8 oz.

Balance point from end of butt - 20 1/2"

Balance point from end of wrap - 3 1/2"

For many, the weight of my shaft would be high, but it works and feels great.
Are any of you adamant about your prefences or have a particular like?

Drivermaker you appear to like your Cue a Tab Bit Heavy. Personally have been playing with my Lighter Cues Recently. Total weight in the 18.4 to 18.8 Ounce Range.

Have not got all the Fine Numbers like you.

Butt Weight

Shaft Weight

Balance point from end of butt

Balance point from end of wrap

Although your cue is less than 1/2 oz. different in weight, those specs on the balance point are like night and day. I think either one of us would go
"whoa Nellie" after picking up each others cue and shooting the first shot with it.

Hmmmm!

Exact weight but no idea on the balance points. I'll have to check it out.

There's only about .1 oz difference between my Black and my Carter (~19.15 oz), but the balance point is at ~19.25 and ~2.5 inches from the wrap. The feel of the cue is extremely different. It feels "heavier" to me. I prefer the feel of the Black. The Carter feels to front heavy to me. To each his own I guess.

The cues that I have weigh in just a touch over 19. Believe one is 19.2 and the other is 19.3.

One balances at 19 1/2" the other is 19 3/4" if my memory is correct. I don't have the weights of the butts vs shafts, though I'll consider that the next time I buy a cue.

Need to figure out butt dia as well in the handle area(s).

Are these the stats for your Hercek?

My current favorite cue is:

length - 59-1/4"
weight - 19.6 oz.
butt weight - 15.5 oz.
shaft weight - 4.1 oz.
balance point from end of butt - 20" (no bumper on the cue)
balance point from top of wrap - ~1"

A shaft that weighs 4.8 ounces?!?!?!? Damn, DM, take the lead joint protector off before you weigh it! :D

Hi Drivemaker,

That was me that posted about the forward weight of the Kikel. Keep in mind that I am 6'1''. With a cue that is too far forward weighted the entire balance is thrown off for me since my hand is more back on the cue. I have currently 9 cues all of which are balanced approx. 18.5 to 19.25 from the butt. This works well for me and makes the cue seem more neutral in my hands.

Like you, however, I know alot of people that just love a forward weighted cue. To each his own I guess.

Regards,

Doug

Just curious, do you use an open bridge?

The Hercek is close...it's 19.65 oz. 15.1 oz butt...4.65 oz. shaft...(although I have a number of others which weigh less)...19 5/8" balance point.
Which is damn good considering that it doesn't have the extra weight of a ss joint. It's ivory.

What is you Tool to CHECK POINT OF Balance

I have used a Knife Blade, but it was a Dinner Knife, and I used the BACK or Back Side/Reverse Side of the Blade that is about .025" Inches Thick.... :D

The tool that you use is your extended forefinger. Place the cue across it until it's balanced. Place a small piece of tape on top of the cue to coincide with the balance point on your finger and then measure it from the end of the butt cap to that point. (exclude bumper)

One of my JM's

Cue Weight - 19.3 oz.

Butt Weight - 15.5 oz.

Shaft Weight - 3.8 oz.

Balance point from end of butt - 17.75"

Balance point from end of wrap - 1/2"

Soon to be 18.7, or 18.8 Ounces.... ;)

I don't know which is my favorite but here are the specs of my cues:

The best cue I ever played with was a Zylr Sneaky Pete I wish that cue never got sold. That cue felt like it performed magic in my hands. The low gloss finish worked well with my slip-stroke. Good thing I am having Kerry make me a new one.
Length- 57"
Weight- 19.5oz-20oz
Butt taper- 1.210" end of butt
1.125" center of wrap
1.00" center of forearm
.840" end of joint
Butt weight- ?
Shaft diameter- 13mm euro taper
Shaft weight- heavy i'm guessing around 4.5oz-5oz
Balance point- ??? it had a forward balance I just don't know at what distance it was from the butt.
