Your Favorite Drill

I'm sure this has been posted (prolly many times) before but I'm trying to put together a training regimen to follow every day and it would be useful to see your favorites so I may put them into my training routine.

I have been doing some of the "mother drills" as prescribed by Scott & the BCA and using the SPF part on a drill that I like. Im seeing progress after doing the drill I'll diagram below (it's very simple and doesnt need a diagram really but I like to see other people diagrams (visual learner) so I'll do mine) which is simple and my favorite.

CueTable Help

Simple... 15 balls lined across the center of the table. I have been primary just doing it from the cue ball position you see in the diagram but I will also do the other two (A & B cue balls shown) exactly the way I do the main one (cue second diamond) to increase the difficult (ball B) or decrease the diffulty (ball C) and the other two require a softer and harder stroke so I figure it rounds out my game a bit. So anyway I aspire to hit 3 racks of balls and (daily) document my results.

the first 5 balls are stop shots each worth 20% which I break into 2-10% scores. I shot the first 5 corner pocket lined up dead straight in. If I stop the CB (reasonably) perfect I give myself 10%, if I make the ball I get the other 10%- so I stop every CB in the five shots and say I miss pocketing a ball I get 90% acuracy and document that result...

Next 5 are draw... I shot the next five in trying to draw the ball back to the original diamond I started the shot from same thing 10% for making the shot 10% for drawing the ball back to within a few ball lengths of where I started the shot...document that result.

last 5 follow... Exact same as the other 2 sets but I try to follow to the opposite corresponding diamond If I start at the second diamond back, I try to follow to the second diamond forward, etc. Same thing each ball worth 20% total. 10% for making it/10% for good shape. Document it.

Whats your favorite drills?

i can never stay focused on drills like these, i do them for a little while but eventually i stop perhaps because im too lazy to tally up the points or set it up.

i've recently started racing the ghost or playing uhh "fargo" which are pretty easy to score well it certainly is easy to set up and score. i also really like the fact that there are rankings for A/B/C/D/Pro level for these games. maybe that lack of dedication is what is holding me back at this point

i remember stopping doing drills like that because i wouldn't do good enough, but now that i've improved maybe i can start again)

actually i really like your drill because its like the square drill but with a more designated shot type approach since i assume you reset the cue balll after each shot?

Here is one that I came up with and use regularly

In this diagram, you see the way the balls are setup this is not exactly how they will be setup. what you do is always keep the CB where it is and use like nine or ten balls and first you start by putting them one at a time where the one ball is in the diagram and shooting them into the far corner, then you put them one at a time where the two ball is etc, etc, until you get to the last diamond. They are always one diamond in and you travel one successive diamond up the table until you get to the last diamond.

The goal would be to eventually get to where if you miss a single shot you start over until you don't miss. You can do it with however many balls for each location that you want, so it can be for every skill level. I usually do it with ten balls at each location but I used to do it with nine. It takes about forty five minutes to complete the drill if you don't miss at all using nine or ten ballls at each location. If you can complete the drill without missing using nine oor more balls at each location, then you are pocketing at a pro level.

My two favorites were the ghost with 15 ball rotation (I was a slight underdog in that:rolleyes: ) and Mississippi 9-ball. Johnnyt

Here's my 10B drill that I adapted from the Mississippi 9B drill. I've shown it to several people and they learned quickly that is much harder than it appears. It stresses your speed control (both ways, across the table & up-down the table) and cutting ability.

I also use this one. Shoot any ball at any time. I find this one tough as all balls are frozen and the four surrounding the side pockets can eat you up. I don't allow myself to bank anything, break balls free from the rails, or kick anything. If you find this one trivial, try sliding the balls along the side rails 1/2 diamond closer to the side pockets.

That Miss. 10-ball one looks cool. Looks like a real good drill for position. Johnnyt
