Your Favorite Pool Coach

There are many players who know how to win. They somehow find a way to win even when they are not in stroke. You've seen them. These days they seem to be everywhere.

While some players can communicate what they do on the table, others have the unique ability to communicate the psychological aspect of a winning attitude & perspective.

Who would you like as your pool coach about ATTITUDE & PERSPECTIVE as it relates to winning?

One of my favorite players who plays a mean game of 9 ball, when he not lifting a paint brush who seems to be able to demonstrate and articulate what it takes to win is Jim Jennings.

Some of the other players I could guess at but I really don't know if they have the ability to articulate the winning attitude (as a coach for someone else). Jim does have that ability.

Do you have a favorite player who has demonstrated the ability to communicate what you have to do to win?

In boxing, you have corner men who tell their boxer what they should or should not be doing.

Please limit your suggestions to players only who you have seen personally demonstrate the ability to help settle another player down, to inspire another player, to help another player become centered, help motiveate another player etc.

For this thread only, please no instructors, no authors and no wannabee pool players, however they can be a once upon a time poolplayer.

Who would you want in your corner based upon your personal observations?

Willis Reed was my pool coach .Willis was'nt just a great player,whenever I'd miss a shot or get called for a foul,he'd give me that look..That look of "you'd better get it together or else!!!" That always inspired me....

But seriously Joey, I would have to say Dan Louie ..

I'm going to have to agree here. A friend of Jeanette's went to her house for a game of straight pool. She told him they could play a game, or just have a practice game (and discuss the game as they went). The fellow chose to have a nice, friendly game, and asked for a spot. She said, "well, you're my friend, but if we're keeping score I'm going to have to rip your heart out."

She has an incredible will to win that allows her to play despite severe physical handicaps; and there are NO EXCUSES ALLOWED. Just do your best on each and every shot.

P.S. - her husband is JUST as committed to perfection on every shot, and has just as much competitive spirit. Both would be tremendous coaches in the sense Joey is discussing - they know what it takes to win, and they communicate this well.

My bookie! Nothing like him and a couple of his "boys" standing by waiting for the money off of the light to truly inspire and motivate me.

Actually coaching attitude and perspective can come from any winner that knows how to communicate regardless of what they are a winner at. Even a winning salesman can have good advice and people in widely varying activities are well worth listening to.

Coaches that aren't and haven't been winners don't get quite the same respect from me in this one area because they are repeating what they have been taught, not what they know in their gut. Of course winning attitude can come from more than one root and some winners are totally unwilling to acknowledge the real roots of their will to win and feed you some pap. Other winners simply can't communicate despite their best efforts.

I knew my original post might not sound very serious (and we all should keep some air in our serious life)... In any case, I was taking Joey's question seriously, almost word for word...

...can settle players...an inspiring person...a helpful player...not an instructor, etc... the best of all, Joey mentioned the word "communicate" three times. IMHO nobody else can be a better candidate.

Communication is an very important thing in our sport and she has done a darn good job for us.

Nice shot. Wei/Jeanette's shot is also in one of Grady's instructional videos. He says to shoot it any time it is close to the inside titty. It is a good one pocket shot that while it may be a low per centage shot it has backup as it does not give up the game if you miss it altogether.
