Ok, Ok... complete newbie question(s).
I got a couple rep points for a quote I put in my
new member introduction thread. I didn't even realize these where on my user CP until reading this thread. This is the first forum I've used with rep points.
Just outta sheer kill-the-cat curiosity, what are REP Points? How are they used? Is there any value scale for the number of points earned? Finally, If I get enough of them, does somebody send me a new pool table complete with my very own Sardo Tight Rack girl?
I only ask 'cuz nothing came up in checking the FAQ section.
I thought you were joking about the LATEST REPUTATION RECEIVED not being in the FAQ section (found out different) so I thought I would provide you with some information about it.
No you cannot buy a new pool table and fantasy rack person with your green REP. That is what the V Cash is for.
REP points are given and collected by forum members. You can even give BAD REP. Good REP is green in color. BAD REP is RED in color. When you give the REP you may also provide comments about why you gave the REP or simply to express your appreciation to that person in a particular post or thread.
It is a kind way to say that you appreciate someone's post, thread, idea or anything else that you might like concerning a particular post. When you give good REP, it is in the form of points and they are accumulated and you can see how many points you have accumulated. When you have accumulated over 7,500 points, you are allowed to have practically any other member banned who has at least 500 points less than you do, providing you have a semblance of a case to have them banned in the first place.
Also, the administrator and forum tush hogs will take the person's side who has the largest number of points. Keep in mind that only you, the forum tush hogs and the administrator can see just how many points you have so be careful about throwing your weight around. You really don't know how many points another member has unless they tell you ( and then you don't really know how many they have.) So if you try to bully another member because you think you have more green REP you could wind up in the trick bag. Indiscriminate use of this powerful tool can have results similar to telling your significant other that the dress they're wearing makes them look fat.
The more REP points that you accumulate, the greater the value of your REP points. So members with a whole lot of green boxes have more point value than say a new member who only has a couple of green REP boxes.
Member at the top of the food chain with lots of Green REP often have private parties at AZ Billiards get togethers, drinking the latest fancy Metro coffee brews and discuss how they got to be so darn popular. That is the only bad thing about the Green REP because it can sometimes lead to gradiose discussions about one's experiences on the Main Forum. Some of the members actually have fights over REP points and it can get down-right disgusting but overall it has a postive impact on the majority of the forum members and helps to recognize individuals for their contributions to the forum. When one member starts to brag to another about how many REP points he or she has, they are one of those people that get invited to those private parties I am talking about. But really, the parties aren't all that good but I enjoy the caffeine fix when I'm invited.
Welcome newbie. Enjoy your stay.
