Your first REP point. (GREEN SQUARES)

:) I don't remember my first REP point unfortunately, the person who gave it to me or the comments and truly wish I did.

For a very long time, I wasn't aware of REP and never paid any attention to the little Green Squares. I'm sure that since I didn't know what green rep was, I didn't read the threads and posts that contained info on them. I probably thought green rep had something to do with the condition of the felt on the table. :p

Since you can only see a few of the REP credits at a time and it appears that if you don't read them when you get them they can be gone in no time at all. Newer comments and REP points take the place of older ones and the older ones simply go off into never-never land.

If there was one thing I would like to see changed it is probably that. It would be nice to travel down memory lane to see the comments that people make. As time passes, even after reading the comments left by the GREEN PHILANTHROPISTS, I have a tendency to not only forget the comments but who donated the REP even though those comments are greatly appreciated.

I wonder if there is a setting in the MAIN FORUM that could be changed.

Anyway, its Thanksgiving and I have a lot to be appreciative of and the little green REP and the comments that people make are some of the best things I have ever learned about pool, myself and other AZers.

Rep points

I agree, Joey. Some of my best moments on AZ were either leaving rep points for a post that I really appreciated or reading the comments from someone who had gotten something from one of my posts or, more often, an image I had posted.

This Isn't Funny... imo

I also would like to see that change. What I do in the meantime is keep a piece of paper by the computer. On it I write who I gave rep too and the date, and who gave me rep and the points.
Don't get to know for what posts, but one could add that too if they so desired.

Neil, when you click on CP (top left of this page) your most recent Rep points and who gave them to you is shown. Just to left of those Rep points is the title of the thread where you received your points. If you click on THAT Title, it will take you to the actual post that you received your Rep for.

( I'm beat, I've been telling jokes ALL day and all I got was Squadoosh ) :)

I just tried and it says you're not accepting new rep. points at this time.

I Accepted Some Rep Once.... imo

It's not that I'm not accepting them, it's that I'm particular where they came from and if they're accompanied by food and/or drink... :)
Doug

Edited to add: It didn't help that I put 11 people on my Ignore List today...... then I gave THANKS (and ate some Ramen noodles )

I think it would be cool to see ones from years ago, but honestly, I think a lot of people here take "rep" WAY too seriously.....

If you really want to know, you can find the post and comment left, but not who left you rep. It could be time consuming but if you really want to know.

1. Click your user name.
2. Click find more posts by.
3. Click last page
4. Scroll to bottom of page, this should be your very first post.
5. Click your comments of post to open the post.
6. Click the rep button, this will tell you if rep has been received for this post and comments, if rep was given.
7. Move up one post and repeat steps 5 & 6

Good luck!! :)

Ok, Ok... complete newbie question(s).

I got a couple rep points for a quote I put in my new member introduction thread. I didn't even realize these where on my user CP until reading this thread. This is the first forum I've used with rep points.

Just outta sheer kill-the-cat curiosity, what are REP Points? How are they used? Is there any value scale for the number of points earned? Finally, If I get enough of them, does somebody send me a new pool table complete with my very own Sardo Tight Rack girl?

I only ask 'cuz nothing came up in checking the FAQ section.

I thought you were joking about the LATEST REPUTATION RECEIVED not being in the FAQ section (found out different) so I thought I would provide you with some information about it.

No you cannot buy a new pool table and fantasy rack person with your green REP. That is what the V Cash is for.

REP points are given and collected by forum members. You can even give BAD REP. Good REP is green in color. BAD REP is RED in color. When you give the REP you may also provide comments about why you gave the REP or simply to express your appreciation to that person in a particular post or thread.

It is a kind way to say that you appreciate someone's post, thread, idea or anything else that you might like concerning a particular post. When you give good REP, it is in the form of points and they are accumulated and you can see how many points you have accumulated. When you have accumulated over 7,500 points, you are allowed to have practically any other member banned who has at least 500 points less than you do, providing you have a semblance of a case to have them banned in the first place.

Also, the administrator and forum tush hogs will take the person's side who has the largest number of points. Keep in mind that only you, the forum tush hogs and the administrator can see just how many points you have so be careful about throwing your weight around. You really don't know how many points another member has unless they tell you ( and then you don't really know how many they have.) So if you try to bully another member because you think you have more green REP you could wind up in the trick bag. Indiscriminate use of this powerful tool can have results similar to telling your significant other that the dress they're wearing makes them look fat.

The more REP points that you accumulate, the greater the value of your REP points. So members with a whole lot of green boxes have more point value than say a new member who only has a couple of green REP boxes.
Member at the top of the food chain with lots of Green REP often have private parties at AZ Billiards get togethers, drinking the latest fancy Metro coffee brews and discuss how they got to be so darn popular. That is the only bad thing about the Green REP because it can sometimes lead to gradiose discussions about one's experiences on the Main Forum. Some of the members actually have fights over REP points and it can get down-right disgusting but overall it has a postive impact on the majority of the forum members and helps to recognize individuals for their contributions to the forum. When one member starts to brag to another about how many REP points he or she has, they are one of those people that get invited to those private parties I am talking about. But really, the parties aren't all that good but I enjoy the caffeine fix when I'm invited. :)

Welcome newbie. Enjoy your stay.

Getting a Rack Gal for V-Cash is about as difficult as getting some people to recognize and appreciate their good fortune.

May our sacred Earth Mother wrap her nurturing arms around us, as we seek oneness in thanks for all the grace and wonderous mysteries she bestows on us. May we forever remember the glorious, yet fragile threads that bind us all together. (from some artist's blog, somewhere on the Internet). It sounded like it fits in our forum. :)

As Bill the Cat would say... "Ack!"

Not sure if I'm now standing with my face covered in a classic creme pie. Better go check in the mirror... :D

Not at all.

Your photographs are quite nice, spectacular is more like it. :)

Do you have any pool/billiard photographs?

I can imagine you taking pictures in a dimly lit old-time pool room, with one of our ancient characters, Be-Be (who relies on extensive sharking), blowing cigar smoke rings just below the table's lights, whispering just loud enough, "Good shot baby, you got me", while his opponent tries to shoot a difficult shot. :D

Thanks for the compliment. I wasn't quite sure, as you served up the cheesiest thing I've written in a long time, and it read even cheesier here out of context. Mind you, it's not an insincere sentiment, just cheesy like a Hallmark Anniversary card.

Nope, no pics in the pool rooms (yet). Have thought about popping off a camera flash at an opposing player once or twice; but I usually prefer to leave a room in the same number of pieces as when I arrived.

Cheers!

I didn't have a clue what those green boxes were when I first got here. After I learned what they were I gave some out and still didn't know how to check my rep. I just stumbled on to it one day while bored. I don't give it out very often and as such I don't receive it very often either. But that's ok too. I post in threads from time to time and would post more but it seems that my posts are often over looked. Maybe I don't have enough green boxes to get noticed. LOL
