Old Bar Table

My table is an old bar table. It takes 2 dimes. It is a 1941 Valley and has a single piece slate. It is great for practice as it has tight pockets, 2 1/4 inches, unlike the bar tables today. The guy I bought it from said it had ivory balls and was in good shape. He emailed me a pic and the balls didn't look like ivory to me. I took an ivory Q ball just to prove to him wrong. When I got there I was not a happy camper. The balls were definately not ivory, just old yellowed balls. There was also a large dark brown spot on the cloth that was just the size of that old cast iron skillet that was hung in the kitchen. Believe it or not, from 1941 till 2004, it still had the original cloth and rails. How he could say it was is good shape was beyond my ability to understand. Two rails had stripped screws and could b wiggeled by hand. The rubber was mush. The cloth was faded out and had a number of cigeratte burns and what appeared to b a coffee spill. I told him about the cloth and rails and he said they worked great and that he and his buddies shot on it all the time. He threw a ball against a rail and u could hear a sickening "thud". :( The only good thing was that the cabinet was in great shape. No scrapes knicks or damage and still had a great original finish. Basically as new! How that could b was amazing.

Eventually I bought the table and got new rails and 860 Simonis cloth (no slow nap for me). Now it looks great. When we took off the old cloth it had a white, what appeared to b thin canvas backing. The cloth/canvas was so rotted that it came off in peices. When anyone comes to shoot, the 2 dime slot amazes them and they always ask how old it is. ;)

8 foot Olhausen Remington (mahogony finish on solid maple) with Simonis 860 (camel colored felt). The table plays great and my wife thinks it's pretty to look at (critical in my getting approval for the purchase! :-)

Tax write-off?  :D

We have had people tell us they are writing off the table. I guess they call them work benches or something like that.

I'm just waiting to find a really good deal. Since I'm a mechanic it doesn't cost me anything to move it. A friend of mine who is also a mechanic got a table for free. They called him one saturday and said "If you can get this table out of my house it is yours". So he picked it up.

I'm still waiting for the call that says. "I have a Gold Crown 4 and an original Balabushka." Come get it and it's yours. My partner and I have already argued over who is getting what. A heated argument at that.

I would also like to point out. I and some others have commented about having a seperate forum dedicated to pool tables. We have one for cues and also pros. Why not one for the equipment that if it was not there there would be no need for a cue, tournament, or a pro forum? Just my $0.02

I guess I am the only poster with an eight foot table.

8 foot Diamond Hortensia. Yea, I know, not a Diamond Pro, but I got a good deal. Good deal = wife agreement.
I used to have a 6 foot Irving Kaye coin op. Irving Kayes were made in Brooklyn, NY. Now I have no table. :( If you think a 7 foot bar box looks tiny, you should have seen this one.

Check the avatar...

I bought this Brunswick Gold Crown five years ago...not sure if it's GCI or GCII...It has ash trays in all four corners and it comes with a skirting that is out in the garage...the skirting is the original color...off white...otherwise it's been painted black...

Mike House put on a Simonis 760 and speeded it up...it was playing a tad slow...I have Brunswick Centennial balls...

The light is 8' with four fluorescent bulbs...I bought it from my friend who found the table for me...he had a few of the lights that he bought when a pool room sold a few tables...

If you're coming to Orlando...the country's #1 vacation destination...come on over for a few racks...

9' Murrey Pro. I wanted to get another GC (Used to have a GC1) but I got a pretty wicked deal on this table. Not becuase the tables great, but becuase it's setup the way I wanted. The pockets are 4 1/4 but not shimmed (setup the way Ernesto/Steve and a few others are doing it now). New simonis 860 on the rails, and table.
A real old set of Centenials came with the table, but I'm ordering the bad ass Aramiths and measel ball etc..

The table plays perfectly.. It's definately worth the extra money to have the right guy (In my case Steve L) set it up. Especially when it comes to the playabillity of the rails.

I also have a Steve L. (Tablemechanic is his handle here) table setup down (or I guess it's up from where you are) here in Orange County. It's an 9' AMF Gold-Crown look-alike. He does truly excellent work, a real artisan. I love his extended rail pocket setups, much better than shims. Mine are 4 3/8" in the corners.

9' Conelly Prescott with 860 simonis and super aramith balls. Light was custom built with the help of my father-in-law. The inner dimensions are exactly 50x100" to light up every inch of the playable table. The construction is solid oak wood and houses 4 8' tubes. The tubes I got are daylight colored and illuminate the table quite nice (as well as the rest of the room). The design was based off the diamond light. Total costs of materials was $250.00 and IMHO looks a lot better than a diamond. The only drawback is the weight....If I remember correctly about 100 lbs.

This picture was taken while in the process of moving....the boxes, foosball table, and recreational gear made its way to the pool room out of necesity. I'll try to post better pics of the light if anyone is interested.

Table type

30 year old Brunswick, Windsor VIP, 3 piece slate, and a solid piece of equipment. Anyone else have one of these? I haven't seen anything yet that I would care to replace it with.

I have a 9' Brunswick "Reno". "Tournament blue" 860 Simonis (REAL PLAYERS CLOTH), with Tweeten 1/4" pocket facings. The pockets are still too big with a shallow shelf. The ball return is the sweetest return I have ever seen. I still haven't given up, but if I cant get this table to play like I want it too, I will be purchasing a Diamond PRO.
The table is in really good original condition. I was told it was made in late 1800's to early 1900's. The "Give away" for this was the pocket drops on the slate. They are made out of wood. I was told they did this back then because the tooling was not yet made to bevel cut the slate edges so they used a hard wood. This gives me promise that maybe I can redo the pocket drops with ebony, allowing to create a deeper shelf and tighten up the pockets like I want them done. My concern in doing this is having balls get spit out due to there not being enough room for the balls to drop properly.
So Mr. Listeko, how much would it cost to get you to visit Missouri? :D
If I could get this table to play "Right" I would be in heaven, I love the old "T-Rail" Style, but, for mr, it will boil down to playability. If I cant get it to pay "Right". I will replace it.

9 Foot Brunswick Heritage drop leather pockets, have a set of Centennials and Super Pros. Blue dot, measle, red dot, oversize, magnetic, heavy cue and other misc cue balls.

1912-1918 Brunswick Sultana,9ft. Guy wanted $50 to get out of his garage! New cushions and 860 plays like a dream.

Dude!...I hate you!:D

That stuff never happens to me!.....except customers calling me to ask if I want a 70 year old toilet, or leaky water heater.!

Gerry <<<<<<<<<Plumbing contractor.

Pro 8 Ohlhausen with Siomonis 860, green. Centennial balls. Table is ok but it's no Gold Crown. Had one hell of a time getting it level for some reason. Ball return makes quite a racket. Next time I'm going with a Gold Crown.

Home setup

9' Brunswick GC III with 860 Simonis, Artemis cushions, and pockets cut to 4" at the points.... it's a good practice table cuz it makes pockets on every other table look like buckets

This is a Cannon 8 foot table. It's certainly no GC or Diamond, but it plays OK. It was a display model at a pool and spa center.

Mine is an AMF

Does anyone remember the AMF's with chrome corner caps that were cut off at a 45 degree angle? I am guessing the table is 25-30 yrs old, I got it from a billiard hall that went out of business. It is a 9 ft commercial table with plastic buckets. It is not overly fancy but it is rock solid and plays very well. I play on other GC's and Gandy's and mine compares well to them all. It has slow cloth though and that will get changed soon, a nine needs something like Simonis to really manuever well. A new Centennial ball set is stored away for the arrival of the Simonis!

Gold Crown I with 760 Simonis. Came with super pro Aramiths. Got a decent deal for it on eBay last year -- $1,100. Had "new" GCIII pockets put on ... plays a little too easy maybe, but fast. Room still needs some work, and some hormones on the home front have been keeping me from getting in a lot of table time lately.
