Your very first cue...

Does anyone happen to still have the very first cue they ever owned? If you're like me you have owned a lot over the years...
My father gave me my first cue when I was about 10 years old. I used to watch him play in the Busch league (great place for a 10 yr old, right? lol), and so of course I wanted to play. I think he won it on a bet one night. It was a 3-piece affair with little carved niches all over the handles.. it had these big washers you could put in between the two butt pieces to shift the weight around to your liking. I used to spend about 6 hours a day playing on the junky tables at the local Boys Club (back then it was just boys club, not boys & girls like today).
Well fast forward about 23 years, and somewhere along the way it disappeared. I eventually made the big upgrade to a 2 piece Dufferin from the local Wal-Mart, and from there on to my pride and joy (at the time) a coveted McDermott D-1. So of course being young I tossed the ratty old cue my dad gave me into a closet somewhere and never thought about it until I was much older.
While visiting my Grandparents over Thanksgiving, the conversation somehow turned to pool and how much I liked to play when I was young. My Grandmother says 'You know, I still have one of your old cues..' (they never ever throw anything away). I say.. 'Really?' (very intrigued at this point). She brings out this beat up, dusty old case.. I open it and just stare.. it is my first cue, brought back to me 23 years later.
Here are a few pics for your enjoyment, please try not to laugh :)

Anyway, just a nice trip down memory lane with axe and crowbar. Anybody still have their very first cue laying around?

I still have my first cue. Then again I only bought the thing two months ago. Crappy used Mecucci, but I upgraded to a McDermott Summit and now I'm looking at adding Pechauer and Joss' as well. Funny how that always seems to happen.

I think it was a Mizerak. Cost about $50 at the BX while I was still in the Air Force.

1968

Yeah, I still have my first...bought it in 1968, my first year at college; hated to study....loved to play pool! $24.95 Brunswick, brass joint; nylon wrap. I hardy played after getting out of college...for about 20 years it sat in the closet. Had some friends who asked me if I wanted to play in their league, it sounded like fun, so I dug out the old cue, and went to play. Needless to say the shaft had a slight wobble, but was usable; I played with it for a month before I got a McDermott. I remember having a lot of fun with that old POS Brunswick at the student union. Damn! That reminds me how old I am!

wow, my friends dad found a cue just like that at a garage sale not to long ago. The only difference is that the shaft is split too. so there are a total of 5 pieces/

I still have my first cue from about 6 years ago or so. I have had many inbetween but I could never get rid of my first one. It is a Lucasi and I will probably have it forever. Haven't played with it in years but just can't bring myself to sell it. I think it is a reminder from where I started.

my very very first cue was a sneaky pete i bought off some kid for 50 bucks at the college i went to at the time. it had no markings on it, so i had no idea who made the cue or how much it really cost, or how good it hit cuz at the time i played like a retard. it was really light, and it started my prefrence for light cues and thin butts. most sneakys are spliced from full length house cues but this one was either shaved down or made custom because it was thinner than a fry sp.

i wish i still had it but one day when i leaned it against a counter it dropped and the shaft split in half :(

Mine Was A Orchid Cue Bought For Seventy Dollars About 15 Years Ago. Snapped It In Half Screwing Around With Some Friends. Thought It Was A Sword Or Something. Snapped Like A Dead Branch Of A Tree In A Tornado. I Was Just A Kid. Probaly Wont Try That With My Richard Black Cue Anytime Soon, No Matter How Many Beers I Have.

I purchased my first cue from Paul Huebler in 1974 at Cue & Cushion in Overland MO.

I paid $50 for it and I recently sold it for $380 to a collector, not a bad return!!!!

I'd almost sell any cue I can get ahold of. Even if it was my personal playing cue. All except my first cue given to me by my brother. I was starting to get pretty good and I got a Minnesota fats cue from academy. I wouldn't sell that cue for the world.

Tony

I bought my first cue this past February, just a crappy Minnisotta Fats, but there is something about it, sentiment maybe? I still like to play with it from time to time, it's actually in the cue shop getting a new tip right now.

My second cue, and my first "decent" cue is my current playing cue (until I get my preditor :D ) It's a fully restored twenty year old Viking that I bought off of Larry Nevel using my first tournament winnings.

Earled!

I EARLED:D my first cue! :o
Actually someone leaned on it and EARLED:D it for me.
Oh well, I have had many more.:)

First cues

1st - Sampaia (1966)...fancy carved butt...had it one year
2nd - Rich (1967)... good cue ... had it 2 years
3rd - TAD (1969)...had it 20 years ... gave it to my son
Last cue - Kersenbrock (1977)... next year will be 30 years !!!
& I have accumilated (4) extra shafts for it during that time.

Well, sort of... I've the first one I bought a McDermott RS-13. Actually I call it my McWebb because Mike Webb has done so much work on it over the years. My first cue was given to me by a friend a McDermott EJB and I gave it back a few years later when he started playing again.

Don't suppose you have any other Early or good mcdermott players you'd be willing to part with?
