Youth cue's

My son is 9 years old, i just now got him interested in billiards, even know that he knows it has been a big part in my life ever since he has been born. He has picked up a cue before and just hit around a few in the past but i was just wondering if anyone could help me picking a youth cue out to fit him a little better.im just amazed that i got the video game controller out of his hands temperarly he is just a little guy at about 52" tall, i seen players cue's look to have some nice cue's he likes a firemans skull cue . I think i may just order him one to try, till he gets older and taller to get one of my customs that it looks like he will inherit eventually anyways, just wondering what type of in put you feelow az'ers could give me i appreciate the in put, thanks in advance ,<,,<< ed
 
My grandson is ten years old. I bought him one of rackem's $100 Chinese radial-pin cues. He loves it and hits with it just fine. I think your son would probably do well with a 58" cue.
 
No actually the 58" cue is to much for him , unless you mean the 48" when he gets down to stroke his grip hand is on the forearm of the cue, on the points so i was figureing on a 48" i heard players has a warrantry on the cue now , so i figure why not, just wanted to here some opinions before i order something thanks for the replies , ,,, ed
 
Cuetec,Action,Stealth,Sterling and Players all make youth (childrens) cues from 48" to 52".:smile:
 
My seven year old son had the same problems. He started playing at four and we ordered a cheap action kids cue it was 48 inches. Recently he decided that the cue was too small for him and wanted a new one. The 58 was too much to handle as his hand was on the forearm of the cue. The action threads matched an old Meucci shaft so I put the two together and he likes it. I think it is 52 inches now and works well. The taper on the longer shaft is better for little hands and he can use a closed bridge easier.
I will be getting him a OB2 shaft soon. I am just glad to see him off of the video games.

Why don't you just ask a local pool hall for a house cue that they may be ready to trash or sell very cheap......then get a cue builder customize it for your son.
Maybe 42 inches would be a good length for him right now.

Just another thing that pisses me off about the billiard industry. There is no reason they can't make cues for young kids that want to play pool. Pool has been around forever and a kid under ten has got to use a 58" cue or some POS KMart little cue that will warp in a few months. Probably an untaped business too. Dumb and dumber. Johnnyt

Well i know some of the people on here will not agree with me, but here is my story-- my grandson started playing at age 4-5 yr and i bought him a cuetex cue and jumb/break. they will not ding like other cues. well i told him when he got serious enough, and would take care of his cues we would up grade, well he is now shooting with a[gullassy] and is playing real well, can almost beat grandpop!!!!!!:thumbup:
 
Thanks to everyone who gave me some idea's so far. We were looking online and he like's the players fireman skull cue on ozone billiards, it is a cue case combo. It comes in 48" and 52" . I think i will order a 48" for him. I guess i will order it thursday sometime . Thanks again >>>>>
 
I bought that same cue for my son, the fireman skull player. Do yourself a favor and buy the 52 though, because a couple growth spurts and suddenly the 48 is too short. So far it has held up great, my son has beat the hell out of it, and the only problem is the wrap is starting to unravel due purely to his abuse of the cue, lol. In his defense, at 10 years old, most shots on the 9' brunswicks require him to reach pretty far, and its almost unavoidable to keep from ding the cue when he is almost laying on the table, lol. Good luck with your purchase.


p.s. the pin is 5/16 18, so like the earlier poster said, you can alway throw on a moochi or viking, or even a longer player shaft to prolong the use of it.

I've heard of some people buying a "standard" butt and having undersized shafts made to fit their child's age/size. As the child grows, additional shafts are made to size until a "standard" shaft is finally used.
