Boy was I wrong about this little lady. I thought she was all hype and at best just a flash in the pan. Someone could have taken me for plenty at the begining of this tournament. What was I thinking? I could have sworn I looked her up over in Korea and she wasn't much. Johnnyt

You should have bet on Cha. It would have brought new meaning to the phrase, "ya sure ya betCha."
 
Here are a few things that I know about her. She is a national hero in Korea. She's a very strong Christian living a clean life. She has a work ethic that can't be matched by anyone. IE: She wants to practice 8 hours a day minimum. She can shoot a long straight in shot with those striped practice balls and draw the rock straight back and keep the stripe vertical :eek: !!!!!!!! OVER AND OVER AGAIN !!!!!!! Nuff said ?

She's really just developing but she has the gifts to be a champion...Tom

Last year at the Straight Pool championships she had a high run of 56 after only playing straight pool for about a month and that was on a Diamond in a tournament match. This girl can play.
 
Actually, she had only played straight pool for less than a week. About 3 days before the World 14.1 started.
Her first day she ran high run of 27.
Next day she ran 42.

During one of the matches at the World 14.1, she ran the 56.
And nearly beat Jasmin Ouschan losing 100-92. She got stuck on a shot she didnt know because of lack of 14.1 knowledge, otherwise probably wouldve won. Yu Ram did end up winning 2 matches in her group, not bad for 1 weeker novice at the World Championship .

All this on just my very limited 14.1 knowledge. If she had a good teacher like Hohmann, Robles, Schmidt, she might be running a hundred plus in a month

In the words of Michael Wahl, Hohmann's original coach who has coached many junior national and european boys and girls champions ,"Yu Ram is the most talented and gifted woman's player I've ever seen".

Yu Ram literally didnt even know the rules. She just heard of the game, never seen it played.
First 2 days she didn't like it, said it was so hard.
After the world 14.1 and she played and saw the good players she began to appreciate 14.1 more.

Hohmann came down and stayed at my house 2 weeks ago and wanted to play her 14.1 . he spotted her 150-50 (his idea). She robbed him 50 - 90.
Then he changed to 100- 50 . She beat him again.

She's a tough cookie.

As an asian, only I can say: there are many lady players better than Cha in asia. Taiwanese lady players swept all asian titles these two years (including WPA World Pool Championship) and China has the most young talented and gifted girls players - they will be the most dangerous players in the world in the future.
 
being asian doesnt mean you know whats going on in asia. it may be true that china has a lot of very good unknown players, but that can be said about any country anywhere...

there are strong taiwanese, but there are also strong Koreans, Japanese, Filipinas, and Chinese.

Swept? i dont think so...
YC Lin of TPE won 2008 World 9Ball and 2007 All Japan.
But a Taiwanese never has won an event in europe or USA or WPBA ever!

Shin Mei Liu, arguably the greatest taiwanese woman in history has played in America at BCA Open 8x, never close to winning and never even making it to TV rounds. highest finish 5th.
Jennifer Chen has played on WPBA for 10 years and NOT ONE time won an event yet(wow).
Pan and Kim within 3 years have won 4-5 between them. what asian country is stronger again? :)

Take the event outside of home country, and the girls have to travel, then its alot tougher.

Only girls from Asia able to win on US soil has been Ga Young Kim, Xiao Ting Pan,(none of which are Taiwanese) and Cha who has won now 2 men's amateur events, Junior world event, and 2 National Amateur womans event. ...and soon i predict WPBA.... :D

Hey Jay, I ran into Shanelle today so I passed along your offer. She didn't exactly say no, but she was still laughing as she walked away.

BTW, she did mention that she is looking for a new home, one with a room big enough for the 9' table she is getting. How big is your living room?
