ZEN Cues @ SBE :: Absolute Marvel!!

it sold at the SBE along with the Dragon Cue...

Only 2 were sold at SBE? I can't believe any of these cues made it back to China. Too bad I couldn't make it this year.

Another poster asked what the other cue makers were thinking. It must have been what it was like for Pete Townshend when Jimi Hendrix played at Monterey Pop.

Thanks for sharing the pictures. I hope Ren continues to expand his art. All of them are amazing.

That could happen with local cuemakers here in Denver after spending 3-hours in their shop, and now I'm worried.

BTW, thanks for taking the time to post these interesting pics

Hmm..who are the cue makers in Denver...i need to spend 4 hours with them when i order from them..

Hi,

Big Talent revealed here!!

This is where that guy who always makes the argument that cue makers who use CNC are not true artists.

Yeah Right! LOL

Zen Rocks and it sets the bar just a little higher for all CMs and that is a very good thing.

Rick

Haha no doubt he has upped the ante! Will be cool to see what he'll bring to ICCS...

Master Zen did a great job for the SBE. Can't wait seeing his work for the ICCS.

Dan

Yup, for sure!

These are some of the most amazing cues I've seen lately, from a relatively unknown cue maker until recently LOL... The work looks impeccable and Ren is in top form when it comes to design.

Those are some pretty big name cue makers checking out his work...
Wonder what they're thinking? ;)
I know looks aren't everything, but if they play a fraction as well as they look, Ren will be around for a long time. Thanks for posting up the pictures Jive. It's hard to pick a favorite out of that group of cues. Incredible...

How long has Ren been making cues?

Clint

His cues play very very good, for me at least.
He is so passionate about cue making no just from aesthetics stand point but he is crazy about the hit. He continues to tweak his taper for that hit, plus he plays good pool so that helps too. He has 2 different Tapers, one for Chinese Pool and one for American pool. He recently developed a hybrid taper as well...and he is never satisfied.

To add, Ren has repaired countless cues so he knows the ins and outs of cues and the common problems in cues. So he has studied them and made his cues around the best elements of those cues and more.

He's been building cues for 10years now but he is as humble as day one...i'm proud to be owning his cue( this guy's too busy to make me a cue!!) and even prouder to call him a friend.

Thanks for sharing the pictures. Zen has a great future in cue making with this level of craftsmanship.

James

Definitely, same words that many of the top cue makers said when they checked out his cues.

I saw these in person as well Jive. Ren was way cool and humble as they say. He allowed me to take a few hits and they are pretty sporty and stiff. My fav is the Dragon cue. It was also nice talking to Chady.

Yup his cues play very good, not sure which taper you tried. I personally like them on softer tips like G2 Soft but i don't think he brought any shafts with soft tips on...

clint, zen's cues were amazing....the played really nice...not to stiff along the lines of a good one piece cue...such a nice guy wish i could of kept one of those beauties here in the states for sure....just wasnt in the cards..:o

Yup you described the hit e spot on!

these cues are really beautiful, the flowers look real

what a talent

More to come!~

Actually he only sold 2 at SBE cos the rest except one were sold before the show. The last one that came back to China sold when the package arrive cos i was at the shop and the buyer, my friend bought the cue without asking the price...All these cues went straight to SBE without being shown to anybody in China cos they all get sold immediately...

These cues are freaking bad ass!!! Wonder how they play and hit? But they still awesome no matter what!

hehe, I can understand why Dennis looks to be so interested by the Zen cues !!! it was a kind of 4 axis Masters meeting :) hehe.

superb cues . ahh if only i could afford one ...

Zen cue plays bad ass for sure !!!! IMO he asking $1K for his plain Jane cue is well worth the money to spend for the playability for sure.

nice pictures. Thanks for sharing the biggest secret in cuemaking in Asia. :)

Seen a few of Zen Cues in person and I must say that the work on the cues is very clean and neat. The silver ringwork is done very well too.

nice combination for the 12 pointer cue. Very nice cue, Paul. :)

Hahah wait till you get yours, it's gonna be even more bad ass buddy!!

my 12 points ZEN cue.

Nice cue paul....if only people stop offering you more money for your cue then you can hold on to one long enough for me with play with when I visit you!! I wanted to try that curly purpleheart ZEN so bad...now i gotta fly to Melbourne to try it..

The problem as I see it is that it's almost impossible to develop a really good appreciation for the work here until you see it in person. No photo that I have seen yet captures the detail and intricacy of these materials together like seeing them in real life.

I have said for more than a decade that there are cue makers in Taiwan and China who can stand shoulder to shoulder with the best in the world. Finally some of these cue makers are getting out there and their work is being appreciated.

And these cues hit as good as they look which is very important in my opinion.

I was told by a premier, world-famous cuemaker that Zen cues -and I am quoting him- "are amazing". He advised me to visit Zen's booth and take a look.

I never did have a chance.

However, one of my clients showed me a Zen cue that he bought. Having owned a few cues, the Zen cue that I had in my hand was truly amazing.

Unique

The Zen cues are the most unique cues to come along in over a decade. There may be a lot of cue makers but very few are artist, Zen is an artist. If he comes to SBE next year his cues alone will be incentive enough for me to make the trip.

True that, those cues are really really amazing in flesh. Even if I had my camera and strobes with me I won't know how to photograph them, the glistening finishing and those uber polished silver...photographers worst enemy...
John....you should get one before the prices rocket...

Did you get a chance to play with the cue? Was it the dragon cue or the fully inlayed flower butt cue? They play kick ass too!

Spot on and well said! For those who will be attending the ICCS...be ready to be blown away!!
