I did not need to investigate. The reason I knew he was the seller is because I just bought one from him on ebay in Feb. So there you go...
Interesting - I have been waiting 2.3 years for a cue. Paid in full upfront...
this is why i DIDN'T order a cue from him about 2 years ago. I don't mind a deposit but I don't think it's reasonable to pay in full up front. Once they have the money, they have no incentive to do the work.
I am curious what was asked to make him block you as a bidder...please inform.
Sorry for the late response. I was at the expo all weekend and then had a ton of work to catch up on.
To answer your question.....
Nothing was asked that should have prompted him to block me. I simply sent him an email informing him I was interested in the cue and was sorry I missed it the first time around when it was sold to the non-paying bidder. I noticed the time the auction was ending and asked if I could pick the cue up before I left for the SBE if I were to win as I wanted to take it with me. The auction was ending that Friday morning and Tony is only about 15 minutes from me and offered local pick up as an option to his auction. But I didn't want to buy it and NOT have it for the expo. I wasn't sure if he was going and if he would still be there to let me pick it up. At the time, I did not know it was Tony himself that was selling the cue but I suspected it may be him because of the location.
He never answered the question so I tried to send him another email through the Ebay system and was told the "request could not be processed" and when I tried again after signing in under a friend's account, it went right through to the screen where I could ask the question. Just to make sure it wasn't a glitch in the system, I signed back in under my account and again it wouldn't let me ask the seller a question. That was the night before the auction was scheduled to end.
Honestly, I think the winning bid the first time it was listed was a shill by either Tony himself or someone he knows just to try and increase the winning bid. The problem is it backfired and no one else bid. Lol
Judging by some of the comments that have been made in this thread, it appears that Tony isn't exactly the best cuemaker to deal with. Seriously? What's the deal with having other cues completed and listed on Ebay but not finishing the orders he HAS BEEN PAID IN FULL FOR? Considering all this, it's no wonder why he lives 15 minutes from me and I have never bothered to visit his shop or order a cue from him.
So it's just another name added to the list of cuemakers I will never buy a cue from or own one of thier cues. And go ahead and ask me who the others are. I dare you.![]()
Usually I would agree....however in this case I gave tony almost 5k and other than some unexpected issues that caused a slight delay in delivery times I am very pleased! Some of you may remember the gambler he made for me and I got last December....perfection! I am just as happy with the one I now have for sale...it is beautiful and was worth the wait...If anyone here on the Forum is naive enough to pay for any cue all up front, other than if they were ordering a already made cue from a catalog or perhaps a pool dealer's website, then they've earned all the aggravation and inherent exposure that goes hand in hand with that paying everything up front. You never pay for anything 100% up front that still has to be made or competed.....not a pool cue, not a car, not a house, not a remodel, not graduation photographs, not clothes, not jewelry, not vacation trips, not dentistry...........NOTHING!
So the cue-maker dies in a car accident and another cue-maker finishes the cue.....what cue.....the one you've been waiting which you ordered two years ago that probably hasn't even gotten started yet.
Or you complain to the cue-maker's estate, if it even exists and if not, what next..... complain to the cue-maker's heirs or the probate court of the cue-maker's docile.
Or find out that the cue-maker filed for bankruptcy and you're just outright screwed.....and anyone can get into financial problems in this day and age.
Anyone that pays 100% up front for something, anything that isn't even made.....DUH? No cue-maker is so great and talented to warrant doing something that dumb. And the really esteemed cue-makers, the really great ones.....you know who they are....they don't ask anyone to pay all up front.
Basic contract law..........a specified down payment accompanied by progress payments upon verification of the work completion.....and with a pool cue, at least request photos corroborating your cue production is moving forward. Sure the cue-maker could send you a photo of any wood in progress or even someone else's cue he's making at the moment.
But at some point the cue has to start resembling what you ordered and you'll know if the cue-maker has been jerking you off with fake photos. But like it's been said time and time again, to each their own so do as you will.
