What happened to ringtail wraps?

Can anybody tell me how elephant ear holds up under daily play if taken care of.
Last thing I want or need is that light spot where the cue was held.
I've been using a superior grade EE wrap from Superior, and after two months of twice-weekly play, it still looks new. The pebble grain is still sharp, and the grip is there without being too tacky when I want to shift my hand around.

I've been doing EE on all my high-end shooting cues, but I did do a few in ringtail before I jumped to EE. What I found with the ringtail was that if you were using a section from the belly, the large scales would sometimes create little rub/wear spots on my fingers near the joints. Not sure why it created that kind of friction there, but I don't have that problem with EE at all.

Here is a 31" Richard Black cue I put ringtail on and honestly, I don't think it detracts or steals attention from the cue at all.

Shout out to Shane Jackson, he did the wrap, and his work was outstanding!

The Golden Sombrero - my worst shot ever

Is it because sombreros are associated with blocking the hot sun, and the Hollywood stereotype of taking a siesta under a sombrero, as in sleeping at the plate?
The Golden Sombrero comes from hockey's hat trick, three goals in a game. Thus a batter who strikes out three times in a game is said to wear the "sombrero". The word in Spanish refers to any type of hat, but in popular culture it is associated with the unwieldy huge hats worn by stereotypical cartoon Mexicans. More grand than a hat would be a sombrero that is gold. It is awarded to any player who strikes out four times in a game. A platinum sombrero for five strikeouts or a titanium sombrero for six strikeouts may be awarded but they are much rarer than a golden sombrero.
I can imagine just the sheer unwieldyness of wearing a giant hat at the plate throwing your whole swing out of whack as being the source of this term. You gotta hand it to baseball players for coming up with some pretty descriptive metaphors for various types of gaffes, including a "sword" (a really awkward swing and miss), "frozen pizza" (a curveball that freezes a batter as it bends over the plate), etc. Must be all that down time during the game.

Also makes me wonder if there's a similar list of pool related terms... hmmm...

Question for mechanics

Good question and maybe thats where this is heading. I was trying to save the 170 shipping both ways and not have the tabke down for the extended time while in transit. However that is the option I am leaning towards I just wanted to reach out and see if anyone else had any ideas
From my experience(s)....whoever will do a tournament grade professional job that you will love.... Pay them their price and thank them. (Not 1920/350)...My .02...if you are talented enough to cover the rails you have the talent to replace the cushions. Don't be afraid of them.... it'll be a good learning experience.
Edit...I had rails removed for cushion replacement at the mech's shop. 2 weeks became 4 and so on.
