Seeing the contact point on the object ball.

Except fractional aiming (like all systems) only gets you close - you have to estimate the actual aim line from there. Very rarely does fractional aiming put you directly on the correct aim line with no adjustment.

My point was with fractional aiming you have a direct target not trying to juxtapose 2 contact patches as @straightline would say (i think)

Are Junior players being set up for a tough life?

I steered my children to the game for a life long hobby that would forever challenge them.
Three of the four now have tables in their houses that they play on when they have time.
They were able to purchase Diamond tables because they have done extremely well from having amazing careers.

To me its like other sports, as far as how good you would need to be in order to have a great family and life. You would need to practice and compete all the time and quite possibly not even enjoy your chosen path.

I do see a shift in the game as far as the ability to make a living but I would certainly push young ones into great grades and higher education and/or the trades.
Excellent job! I have no problem seeing kids play when they're also getting good grades and being good humans. It's the teenaged ones who can barely read or write that do nothing but play pool. I feel bad for them that they were raised that way.

A couple of system I dreamed up in the early 80's

The 50% System

The next two systems are very simple fixed cue ball and return systems. This means the player is going to hit the corner always, whether it is the short cushion first or long as the cue ball will return to a fixed position on the original cushion from which the cue ball departed. The English needed for these systems is constant 12 O’ clock English. The stroke should be smooth and fluid so as not to give pace to the cue ball. The formula is simple; whatever the distance the cue ball lays from the 1st cushion after contacting the corner the cue ball contact the same departure cushion 50% of its original starting point. The player measures the position of the cue ball through the diamond to the corner.

In Diagram 1 the cue ball position is diamond 2 from the 1st rail by aiming the cue ball to strike the corner short rail first, the cue ball returns to the 3rd cushion to diamond 3, (50 % of 2 = 1) a gain of 1 diamond further from the cue ball position.

The Two-Thirds System

The two-thirds system is similar to the 50 % system. The cue ball and its returns to the 3rd cushion are consistent in the making contact the corner via a long, short and long cushion path respectively. The basis for this system is simple. The player measures the cue ball position on the long cushion opposite the diamonds to the corner and by contacting the long cushion first the cue ball will return two thirds the distance the cue ball lays from the end rail. As in the 50% system, the player needs to always apply 12 O’clock English.

The example in Diagram 1 shows the cue ball position on the number 3 diamond on the long cushion and by contacting the corner, long cushion first, the cue ball will return to the 3rd rail at the number 2 diamond on that same long cushion. The calculation is two thirds of 3 equal 2.

How did your life go in a 4 sentence summary? You were in a skill position where you might have actually been able to make a living playing pool. What made you decide to go square (if you did)?

Most of us knew we stunk early on and knew to get a square dayjob.

It was a semi-curse to be an open speed player for this reason.
At 16-17 I'm sure I wanted to go pro. Dad always put a strong work ethic in me. Spend a lot of time around pool players and saw how NOT glamorous that life looked. Kept working and going to school.

I've introduced myself to pros at every tournament I could attend. It's always made me feel like I made a good choice. Nowadays, you can see a kid who has ZERO chance to make a living playing pool and their parent(s) are going all-in with them. I feel bad for that kid in the future. Same way I feel bad when I see a 5-year-old obese kid with parents that keep feeding them junk! That kid has almost no chance in life because their parents' decisions.

Short Rack 8 Ball

I tell you what is fun is a 3-ball ring game. Rack 3 balls in a line and who ever gets the lowest strokes to pocket the 3 balls wins. One tie all tie and anti up every round. Play that with 10 people $10 per round. there might be 20 ties. Pot gets real big and then someone makes all 3 on the break.
I used to make a lot of money in 3-ball games.

I'm ok with it too, it's not my kid. But for each example you just gave, there are probably 100 failed players wishing they'd done it differently.

Identify these billiard balls

They are Centennials, but if they are old, they could have been made by Albany/Hyatt instead of SALUC (which also makes Aramith). The change in manufacturer to SALUC happened about 1988.
If I remember correctly, that change was accompanied by the change from a 'red dot' cue ball to the current 'blue dot' cue ball. Of course, I don't know how you'd ascertain whether the cue ball with your set is original to the set.
