Doesn't matter how good Team Europe is, Jay, upsets happen all the time in every sport. You know what they say in football. on any given Sunday ...

Just a matter of time before the underdog wins. The U.S. is due. If these two teams played ten times, the U.S. would be bound to win two or three of the events.

You are correct. Team USA has won three of the last eighteen MC's. I wouldn't be bragging about a 3-15 record though. That equates to a one in six chance for Team USA overall. In other words calling them a 6-1 underdog is about right.

Fargo Rate - Not Much Math Here

200 games is way overboard. More like 40 or 50 should be sufficient in typical situations. The law of large numbers and central limit theorem are a thing.

Anyway, if you want to know the math, here’s the math: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bradley–Terry_model
Skip, yer killing me. I opened the link and all those reasons I hated studying statistics came flooding back.

A few more tidbits from a Karl Boyes interview with Neuhausen and Woodward last night.

Woodward said last year, the players at his behest just played races to 5. Woodward admitted, again, he is not the best practice player.

But this year? Sky let Gorst handle the practices. Fedor set up a bunch of drills for the players to perform. A lot more structure and taking it very seriously.

Mortiz said he's all charged up to play in the Mosconi. He wanted he and Pijus to get the first doubles match, but the vets said, Ah, no.

Alcaide is the chill player in the group. Team Europe's Dad.

DCC 1p rule change.....................!!

Heath just posted that they are going with traditional rules with a 3hr time limit. Also the event will be open to all ages. Under 21 will not be allowed past casino checkpoint. Lastly, jump cues WILL be allowed in the 9b main event ONLY.
Bad idea imo. Once past the two hour point in the match, whoever is leading will be stalling. What is really needed is a 45 second shot clock. It can be one clock with each player clicking it when they come to the table. The clock will be visible to both players. Perhaps one or two 45 second extensions per game. No ref needed!

Of course this would make too much sense for pool players and tournament promoters. Better to have matches end with a cluster fk where the losing player is complaining about the winner stalling. Just watch.

The bad news. All the trash talk in the world won't help Team USA win games. Better you answer on the table and not with loose lips. Once again they play right into the Euro's hands.

What prevents players from stalling once they have a lead? Like, if the ball count is 3-2 with 30 min left, what prevents the player in the lead from taking 2 min per shot? Feels like a shot clock needs to be added for this to work.

I've played in a timed Chinese 8 Ball tournament before with no shot clock and sure enough, everybody magically needs extra time to think all of a sudden once they have a lead and the clock starts ticking down.

It's Mosconi Week!

Yeah that is not a prediction, that is the idiotic technology hallucinating facts up that don't exist. This is what 1/3rd of the American economy is based on now. That includes everyone's retirement funds.

Funny how they call it hallucinations, I call it lies. It is now the American Hallucination instead of the American Dream.
AI gets better all the time, and like it or not, it is here to stay. The smartest people are the ones who will accept it, use it, but understand its limitations.

I use it a lot at work to dredge up information faster, especially stuff that is hard to find. It's also making a noticeable impact on our business. Small, but gradual and growing.

Nor is AI even close to one-third of the U.S. economy. Still a tiny influence overall. Most companies are investing in it, but few are breaking the bank.

One of my kids wants to reject the technology, but it never pays to be a Luddite. A tool is a tool. Learn how to use it, and you will be rewarded.

If anyone is very skittish, well, put your retirement money in income or other stable funds. That is what I am going to do soon. But I, for one, am happy I caught the early AI wave.

Mind the buyer's premium....

I just saw an auction for a very expensive pool table. The minimum bid is $44,000 and there is a buyer's premium of 30%. The table originally sells new for $69,000. So, why would someone buy a used table with a opening bid of $44,000 plus 30%, that's like $57,000 and you still have to ship it. I bet the new table at 69k comes with free shipping and a warranty.

Oh, well. Problems I dont have to worry about. The table might be related to Usher...yeah, that guy. Check it out:

And, no, I am not interested, nor can I afford the table. I was watching this auction for the Dr. Seuss Taxidermy!

Sea Going Dilemma
BTW, that same table, Toulet Pantheon, is up for auction again on Dec 13, 2025, however at a reduced starting bid of $20,000.

What kind/brand of Mechanics Level to level a Pool Table

I have a friend with a Diamond and wants a good level.

What kind of level should he look for?
Just speaking from personal experience from leveling hundreds of tables. If it is a new installation you have to level the frame and slates, the whole deal.

If a table just developed a slight roll, I have always corrected it by rolling a ball in a certain pattern to find the problem and correcting it. In fact I have seen a number of mechanics when called in to fix a roll do the same thing. You have to know the pattern to fix it or it is like sawing the legs off a table.

You also can have the problem with the three piece slates not all being concentric with each other. It can be the easiest thing in the world or a problem leveling a table.
Even if you are using a level you have to have a pattern to make the correction to see what is really out of whack. It doesn't take much to make a ball roll off. It's amazing people get pool tables as a level as they do.
Just something to think about.

Not sure about anyone else, but i'm ready for this beating to start. Actually excited for Match 2, that could be really good if all parties are on their game. It will certainly set the tone for the event.

And the biggest barker in the barkfest is the one who does NOT deserve to be on the team based on ranking points, much less a captain. Just saying.

I found the exchange awkward, with Tyler and Jayson going back and forth, as if Joshua Filler was not even sitting in the room. Once again, Joshua exhibited maturity and remained silent, much like he did when he was being viciously attacked on social media by sucker-punching cyberbullies.
It was dumb, but Jayson's not wrong: Filler is a monster. He also seemed ready to throw out the Lukas wedge before Tyler even brought up Filler.
That exchange re: Filler and Lukas seemed to catch Josh and SVB off-guard. "I didn't sign up for this" type expressions from both of them.

What was Joshua going to say? He really has no defense for his actions last year. He pissed off a lot of people, and they had a right to be pissed off.

I don't hold it against him. Tough situation for the players all around. Moritz said Team Europe cleared the air during the first few days of their two-week training. All is good now and bygones are bygones.

Mosconi Cup?

^I knew what he/she was looking for, You gotta forge your own path if thats your chosen route.

I for one, wouldnt render my source/s on a pool site, where itll more than likely be reported by someone.

Not saying I do know where to stream for free, but not saying I dont. 😉
