The CARBON FIBER Shaft With the LEAST Cue Ball DEFLECTION

Carbon Fiber does not swell with humidity or become sticky like LD wood does. It's one of the things i hated about wood shafts. You could have some temperature diffrences, but not as much as wood

I see this cited a lot, yet interestingly wood shafts (among pros) are far more popular among people in hot/humid places like Taiwan and the Philippines while carbon dominates Europe.

Questions about the the history of ball in hand

It appears that pro pool phased in ball in hand in by the end of the 1980s. But what about amateur leagues like APA and BCA? My google searching did not bring up any exact answers.

And even when amateur leagues adopted ball in hand, how common was it for non-league players to play with ball in hand rules?

I would say that about 1/4 of the people I come across at bar tables prefer APA or BCA rules, while everyone else plays bar rules. That is usually out of familiarity rather than hatred of ball in hand, however sometimes I do come across people who actually hate ball in hand. I remember a chorus of frat bros shouting "ball in hand is for pussies!" when one of them lost a game after fouling while I was on the 8.

I got into pool at age 28 (I'm 31 now), and I genuinely didn't know ball in hand existed until then. I was skeptical at first, but it's what really made me fall in love with the game. The rules about fouls in both APA and BCA (and of course, WPA) add a symmetry to the game that makes it much more enjoyable to me than people just blasting balls around with no actual consequences for fouling.

Man, pool halls are dangerous

In that story I told in my other post that happened last month it would have been easy to panic and pull my gun and shoot finding the guy in my house. Getting out of the house myself and safe was a better choice.

Can you imagine what I would be dealing with now if I had shot the guy. Even if I wasn't charged with anything. You always have the civil end as well.

You are right of course. You don't defend yourself once usually. You have to defend yourself two or three times if you have to shoot. Only the person in the situation can make the call. Too many variables for Monday morning quarterbacking to be accurate. You were the one on the scene, you made the right choice.

Just a story with a chuckle. A man came into the gun store one morning with a badly scraped nose. Somebody had kept tripping the burglar alarm at his warehouse and office so finally he lay on the couch in his office, pistol at hand. Sure enough, just shortly a man came and slapped the front door a couple times. The alarm didn't go off and he started on the lock.

The owner ran to the front door and the burglar took off. The owner fired a couple warning shots in the air and ordered the thief to stop. The would be thief turned around and fired a couple shots into the front of the metal building. Instant reflex, the owner went face down on the concrete, how his nose got so badly scraped, stayed face down while emptying his pistol and hoping like hell the guy ran. Not what he thought he would do or the heroics people imagine when faced with that situation, the owner just wanted to make it through the night!

10 best players in the world

I think that the DCC tournament with all the side events; Big Foot 10 Ball, Banks Ring Game and Formally Held 14.1 Challenge were a true test of endurance. For any player to play those events and win the "Master of The Table," clearly requires stamina and consistency of game not seen in any other pool tournament. This would also include "Action Matches" as well. So IMO DCC winners are remarkable players.

The CARBON FIBER Shaft With the LEAST Cue Ball DEFLECTION

What some(most?) people fail to get is that ALL shafts deflect and you adjust to whatever that is pretty damn quick. The difference in lo-d shafts is tiny and once you play a while with a shaft, ANY shaft, your eye/hand/brain computer compensates without you thinking about it.

Good point. A good player can adjust to a cue with any amount of CB deflection. Although, this will take different amounts of time depending on the player, and some players don't like changing equipment.

However, LD shafts do offer slight advantages.

CF shafts also offer advantages.

I know a guy that plays with nothing but old-school hi-squirt maple and he'll beat just about everyone on here. Bring your lowest squirt, highest tech shaft and get a dose. BTW, he lives in Oklahoma and mows grass for a living. Durbin cue, solid maple, le pro tips is what he uses.
I agree with this. I also know of the player you mention. I spoke to him at DCC a few years back. He plays onepocket great too. I told him I'm a fellow Exmark rider...lol
