1. Ebony is expensiveAnd, why can't he use real Ebony? Is Ebony really that expensive to use on pool cues? He has cues that are pretty close to the $1k range that he markets as "Sim Ebony". Just seems that he is cheaping out on materials for the sake of more profit.
I know his cues play very nice though.
They do not command much on the used market though. I also know that.
2. Real African Gabon Ebony is hard to get. It is classified as endangered, so really it’s best for all not to use it.
3. Ebony is heavy, it needs to be cored with maple or another light stable wood in order to get it to a decent player’s weight. Might as well just be maple…
Why is it OK to stain maple in other colors but not black?
