Push shot foul?

@Bob Jewett was right, of course:)

I went to the pool hall tonight but I was too lazy to set up the camera:( I set up the balls both frozen, and a hair apart, maybe .5mm. I shot both versions head on with draw, center, and follow. Fast speed on all.

The follow version I couldn't tell the difference in appearance. Just like Bob said, the CB looked about the same in both versions. In the frozen version, it even caught up to the OB and hit it again, again as Bob said. There was a slight difference in sound and stick feel, but not enough to be definitive.

The draw had the biggest difference between the two. And the center hit somewhere in the middle.

Based on this new-to-me knowledge that the follow frozen version looks the same as a double-hit foul, I'm changing my answer to:

Ref declared balls frozen. Player smartly played a legal shot to ride the 9. Ref was not properly trained for WPA American Pool and was going by blackball/snooker/carom rules instead.

Push shot foul?

I like sharing this 22 second clip to illustrate why it’s not a push.

To me, it sounds like there is a slight difference in the sound of the shot played by Dr. Dave and the shot played by Quinten.

Dr. Dave's shot is more muffled.

Quinten's shot has more of a hollow sound.

Could just be my ears though.

Push shot foul?

that makes sense. However, in this particular instance, it sure looked like he pushed through and therefore double hit

This is just wrong IMO. Shooting into a frozen ball with this stroke can’t produce a double hit. Look at the short video from Dr Dave that Matt Poland posted you can see why.

You CAN push foul a frozen ball, but not with that stroke IMO.

What to do with a broken Gus Szamboti?

Many years ago while breaking a rack of balls during a pool league game I snapped the shaft at the joint , thankfully I had a extra shaft later that night when I got home I glued the pieces together and wrapped it with electric tape and I still shoot with it to this day .
This was my Dufferin Sneaky Pete cue !

Had this happened to me and that was my cue I'd cry like a little kid about it !

Please take some pictures after it's repaired then share them with us please and thank you in advance !
Using the Sigel break? I had that happen in to a friend when he tried that. Dufferin sneaky too. Non piloted probably contributed although anything without collars is fair game.

New: a projection pool system with built-in vision

I hate to say it, but seeing the bullseye game provides a glimpse into how a system like this could be used. Training sessions could be loaded and certain shots could be practiced and tracked for precision. Shot streaks could be counted. I haven’t searched this here, but what is the opinion of just shooting 1000 racks solo? A waste of time? Depends on the person? A setup like this could also provide some guidance as to the result of where you hit the cue ball in a certain spot and show you a replay of the last 3, 5 or 10 shots. There is no way AI isn’t being used to analyze all scenarios post break on a pool table already. Now whether or not someone can perfectly shoot each recommended shot is debatable. Thank you tech overlords 😂👎
Just reracking a thousand times might be worth the discipline. As educational tools, learning is still one step at a time.

Was pool better 50 years ago?

sure the top players are better but the question was is pool better.

in tournaments like stu goes to, it is much better play and execution so he likes that. and is right.

in pool rooms, pool is dismal. and that is right. few gamble. not many hang around and the social aspect is gone in most rooms.

the very top players are better now but go in a pool room now and few are very good where as 50 years back the rooms were full of good players. and there would be a half dozen that could run a 100 balls every day.

and more that if a 700 plus player came in looking for action he would have no chance with anyone who stepped up to play.

people virtually lived in the pool rooms. they were full of characters and fun, and it was what they did every day. not so anymore.

Funny pic/gif thread...

All across the industry is what I've heard in all honesty , it doesn't make a bit of difference to me personally .
If they are paying the job to be done a certain way it will be done accordingly .
It's amazing how quickly news travels among touring roadies and companies in general .

I've received high praise for getting my crew of workers done with the job , quickly and most importantly safely so we all go home without any broken bones and all their fingers and toes ! Ha ha
