What’s the worst cue you’ve ever bought?

Hell if I know. I never investigated beyond trying to tighten it more. I paid $100 for it so, if it was a more expensive brand I probably would have, but I just chalked it up to being a cheaper label and the quality stuff associated with that. I still have the cue in a case so I guess there's still a chance to dig deeper.
I would have just epoxied the weight bolt in, and called it a day.

What’s the worst cue you’ve ever bought?

A Verl Horn back in 1997 - it was beautiful, I went to Mooreland and bought it from Verl. The cue was full tuxedo cue like he is famous for. The cue literally played terrible. I ended up trading it away to a collector in Dallas a year or 2 later.

Dean took it off your hands.

New Projector and Camera non AZB'r

Pretty cool.
...
Can't tell if the guy can play or not, but it seems that he has quite a following and really wants to make something.
There is a system like that installed in the local room, that I posted about before. One of the functions is a kind of target pool with automatic scoring. The introductory price is $3000 the last I heard. I don't know how close they are to a real introduction.

Is there any indication of where the guy on Reddit is?

What’s the worst cue you’ve ever bought?

In Detroit back in the late 70’s there was a Gus Szamboti that had at least a half dozen owners in a month that I know of personally, myself being one.

No one could play with it at all. It was a jinxy cue to say the least. Weirdest shit anyone ever saw. Nice looking cue, no one made money on it, it just kept getting sold and sold and sold. It was like there was a Gypsy curse on it. 🤷🏻‍♂️
You need to describe what this cursed Szamboti looked like!

Yapp’s Controversial Tournament-Winning Shot in the 8-Ball World Championship … Was it a Foul?

While I figured this was a foul based on cue ball direction, I don't think it was as obvious at the Capito foul vs Lechner in 2025. It's bizarre that referees don't understand the principles governing good and bad hits when two object balls are near each other. So often, cue ball direction and/or speed will make the call obvious, but referees need better training. In the end, the referee clearly lacked the needed understanding to call a foul, and given this, could not logically call a foul here. I view this as a "lack of knowledge" situation, not a "grossly mistaken call" situation.

As always, well stated.

... referees who don't have the knowledge to judge these situations should not get the nod in the final of a world championship.

Everybody makes mistakes. Some top referees have made many. All we can ask is that they all learn from these mistakes.

Yapp’s Controversial Tournament-Winning Shot in the 8-Ball World Championship … Was it a Foul?

If you watched the video, I don’t see how you can not call it a foul. As Dr Dave says, the action of the CB tells the tale.

I agree 100%. Any pool player who watches the entire video and still thinks the shot could have been good needs to learn a little more about fouls and how to judge them.

Another stupid thread from me: golf is harder than pool

There are only 72 players in the whole world who can play pool at a 800 or higher Fargo. I'm guessing there are thousands of players worldwide who are world-class/elite in golf. I may be wrong though, I don't really keep up with pro golf.
Fargo is based on wins vs opponents. If golf was only match play, you'd also end up with a top 72 that are favored over those ranked below them. Says nothing about which is harder.

I've played both games to a level that made me look like a pro to hackers n bangers and like a hacker/banger to the pros. One is def way more difficult than the other, not just to be great at, but to even be able to play to an enjoyable level of competence.

Is it possible to throw an object ball? Nope

I am sure this has been said already but I haven't read the whole thread. Anybody that doesn't think an object ball could be thrown should have been in the place when a minor league baseball player lost his mind one night. Those balls were thrown eighty or ninety miles an hour and about eighty feet. They broke anything they hit. It was funny how many people realized they had dropped their chalk and hit the floor looking for it!

I stood my ground. I wasn't scared, as long as I was behind him! I was just far enough to the side of him to get a good view and behind him a little. Plate glass or plaster, those balls made holes! He was humming them and his best through the traps was just under a hundred miles an hour!
