Did Brett Gordon break Eddies thumbs?

I was watching The Hustler the other day and I noticed something. The scene where Sarah came down the stairs at the mansion and told Eddie not to beg. That Burt was the man that broke his thumbs and it hit me!!!

Do you think that Burt put the word out on Eddie? The word to cripple him. Therefore getting Eddie to play for him? I know it sounds a bit crazy but another thing I noticed was when Burt came into the bar and he said to Eddie... Why the open bridge? Something wrong with the hands? Burt didn't see him take a shot when he said that 🤔

I could be reading way to much into it but I just caught that and it got me thinking of how dark and sinister Burt truly was.
The novel is the same as the film, Eddie loses his temper and thrashes them instead of hiding his true skill, and they abuse him.

Burt knew all the odds and wouldn't want to stakehorse a player with broken thumbs, he would have broken something else on Eddie with a "hit".

Universal Cues - Aloysius Yapp

I still own a UN30 #7 of 10 Inaugural Edition.
Initially there were a couple of models that COULDN'T be purchased Online. This was one of them. Not sure how many TOTAL were made of this model after. But I've only seen #2 & #8 up for sale.

Great Cue, and I still regularly play it with the LS shaft. (Sold the RS shaft long ago). Initially these were semi marketed as having a Universal Joint.

However, I don't believe it was designed to be interchangeable, more like once chosen and installed it was than PART of the cue. A dealer could carry multiple joints to appeal to a range of customers.

Nice cues!

I've been contemplating

After many years of cue sports followed by many years out of cue sports followed by a few months back in cue sports I've come to a realisation - aiming, by a long way, is the easiest part of any cue sport.

Playing with friends and family that have little to no experience it's apparent to me that they easily find the line of the shot, but for a multitude of reasons deviate off the line between getting down and striking the cue ball.

Why are people, especially beginners so quick to criticise their aim....MY AIM SUCKS!...We've all heard it. I never hear anyone shout that their PSR sucks, or they're terrible at keeping their head still.

It's a strange one.
If their stance, stroke and aim is quality, and they don't understand spin- and collision-induced throw and miss, of course they are going to criticize their aiming skills. That's one reason.

Another reason is that fundamentals are important in stick-and-ball sports but amateurs see pros run tables and think they can do the same with ease so it "must" be their aim.

How to submit data to Fargorate

I realize this is an old thread but, a question came up recently regarding double elimination tournaments and the reporting of the final 'playoff'

It seems pretty normal, when getting to the last games, that the 'hotseat' player simply offers to split the money to save having to play more games (it's often getting late by this point) and in the majority of case the person (with 1 loss) accepts 2nd place and a bigger share of the 'pot'

Let's say the winners bracket played a run to 3....if the tournament director enters 3-0 final win (even though they didn't play) this will go off to Fargo.

I know most software (Challonge for example) will accept 0-0 and a selection of the winner's name...and then close out the tournament. Surely this is a better option when this situation arises rather than give someone a false score but, does Fargo accept 0-0 into the system or does a score have to be entered? even if it was (say) 1-0.

Hope that makes sense LOL

0-0 is fine. It'll either be ignored or go into the system as 0-0. Either way no harm no foul.
