Any cue makers that would consider finishing a full splice blank

Jeff Prather had full splice that interested me. Even if that cue doesn’t end up in my hands, based upon my experience so far, Mr. Prather would not only get my business, but I would recommend reaching out to him to anyone looking for a full splice cue. I knew what I wanted about 80-85% and the butt was also 75% completed. I would say no matter who you are working with, you should have an idea of the wood that you would like used in the build. Ask that person, specifically, what different construction methods they offer. Outside of that, if the price and timeframe to have the butt or butt and shaft(s) shipped to you is acceptable, then you are on your way to a cue built to some or all of your specifications. I have not even shot a rack today, so excuse me while I go shoot a few.

Tougher tables did not help USA pros for 20 years

Similar to what you stated I heard Johnny Archer say that the Philipino players are better because the Money means more?? Well as broke as most of the Pool players are in the USA it should mean as much to them as anybody. And poverty doesn't explain the amount of great players from all the other country's.
Not just more corazon but probably the gumption to learn pool and just as important, how and what one needs to learn.

Do you like forward or rear balanced cues?

Until i started on this site yrs ago i'd never even thought of some of this stuff. I knew what i liked and knew when i hit the first ball. I've never liked really butt-heavy cues but other than that i could adjust/get used to a cue pretty damn fast. IMO our eye/hand/brain system can quickly adjust to these things and within a few shots the cue feels completely normal, like you've had it a while.
I think if you have been playing many years being able to quickly adjust to a different cue is probably easier than a player who has less experience, at this point my stroke is far from automatic, the less variables I have to deal with the better it is for me.

Tougher tables did not help USA pros for 20 years

At my last job, one of my colleagues was from the Philippines. Of course, I had to ask him if he played pool. While he didn't play, he said his parents were good friends with Efren. I asked him what he believed was the reason why there's a disproportionate number of great pool players from the Philippines. He equated it to two reasons:
  1. They have a gambling culture. He said they love to gamble and they gamble on everything. He said even little kids bring change with them when they go to the park so they could gamble on whatever they played.
  2. He said they are mostly very poor, so when they do gamble, they play their guts outs because they have next to no money. I guess this goes along with your point. Being hungry and broke would make you motivated to practice and win.
I think we've become fat and lazy.

Hard to Find the Center of the Cue Ball

I had the same problem, used English on every shot, even when I thought I was shooting center ball, long story short, my vision center was off so I was never truly hitting center ball, after correcting that problem I forced myself to practice for 30 days in a row without using English, I should say sidespin, follow and draw are not really considered English, I was shocked at how much you can move the cueball without sidespin, it also showed me that I was using too much sidespin to often, If you are like I used to be, why use a little English when you can use maximum English? Knowing where the cueball goes with no English helps in knowing how much sidespin you need for better shape on the next shot and breaking clusters, using sidespin is an easy habit to get into so I will take a week of practice from time to time to go back to practice only using centerball, it's been great for my game.
I do the same, each year I spend a week or two using nothing but the vertical axis of the CB. It’s not only surprising how much you can move the CB around without side but also how important it is not to get out of line as your options are limited. It’s also important to keep the balls clean as you can’t use any “halping” english to negate the cling

Do you like forward or rear balanced cues?

I have never measured my balance point before so after reading this post I took a minute to check mine, my butt w/extension(leave on all the time) is 32.3" and my shaft is 30", it balanced at 19.3" , when holding the cue it feels very forward weighted which I like, based on this chart my guess is that the cue being longer and on the forward weighted side is even more than on a 58" cue.
